Today I subbed for Katie. Bobby and I did research for his basketball blog. He looked up Steph Curry from Oklahoma City. We also looked up Oklahoma City Stats.
We talked briefly about what she was trying to accomplish, and then began lessons on the basics for enabling restrictions on the iPhone. We then moved on to using the Mac browser, checking the history, and using the icloud. We also created a new Gmail address for Padma so she can use Google Calendar.
Game design-finding the ideal level of gameplay challenge
Lesson Outline
Investigated how game difficulty level may cause decreased motivation or fun for players if gameplay is either too challenging or not challenging enough.Created and tested games in "Gravity Master" that were alternately too easy or too difficult to play.Decided on goal to craft a game based around a single simple challenge.
Continued working with "Hour of Code" curriculum. Successfully completed all ten levels of "Lightbot" coding challenges. Developed understanding of "code blocks" representing "loops" and "processes" in programming, enabling creation of more-compact code.
Programming a Computer Game Using Icon-based Language
Lesson Outline
Designed several iterations of "Flappy Bird". Built notion of "Events" and "Commands" as key features of computer programming. Allowed other students to play wild new versions of "Flappy Bird" that we designed.
Added the 'T' and 'Y' keys to the home row - Stephen has improved a great deal over the past month. We finished the session on Poptropica, focused on developing his fine motor skills via mouse control.
We began a keyboarding program focusing on the home row and the addition of the 'e' and 'i' keys. When focused, Charlie did a fantastic job! Looking forward, we need to make Charlie believe that he doesn't 'need' to look down at the keyboard to type. I have full confidence that he will achieve this goal!
Today I got a general feel for Charlie's comfort level on the PC. We found and began to dissect baseball stats. We finished the session with some Math games.
