We talked about ion formation and introduced ionic bonds. She was going to take her exam 2, but we had to postpone it to tomorrow. There were limited computers available, so it took her some extra time to get set up.
Bella read, discussed, and analyzed the use of metaphors in two chapters of A Thousand Splendid Suns. She wrote to analyze the character development of the antagonist and his effect on the development of the two protagonists. She then reviewed SAT vocabulary studied before the break.
I worked with Bella on a magnetic music staff, reinforcing the concepts of up and down in music pitch. Then we began to work with rhythm accuracy. Then "Bentley" showed up!

Bentley is their new puppy. Father brought him into school after 30 minutes teaching.....So many distractions for Bella - a shame.
Bella was given time to study her restaurant and train vocabulary in preparation for her upcoming test.
We then read a lesson from the StudySpanish.com website together during which I highlighted some of the key points and brought proper perspective to various elements.

This lesson would be considered a Spanish 2 remediation lesson in many programs.
We discussed the CA gold rush of 1849. It attracted so many new settlers to CA that they (and a current football team) were called the forty-niners. Many people came by sea or via the Oregon or Sante Fe Trails. While 80% of forty-niners were Americans, the remaining 20% came from Mexico, South America, Europe and Australia. The first large group of Asian immigrants also came during the gold rush. We discussed how the gold rush created new communities called "boomtowns." Cities also flourished and San Francisco grew from a tiny village to a large city. The CA Gold Rush more than doubled the world's supply of gold! CA began to grow in population, business and agriculture as a result of the gold rush. President Zachary Taylor wanted CA to become a state. Joining the Union was delayed re: whether CA would be a free or slave state. In 1850, CA became a free U.S. state.
During our first period class, Vice President Kamala Harris became the first woman to assume presidential power! Why? Because President Biden underwent a routine colonoscopy at Walter Reed Medical Center early this morning. Because the procedure required anesthesia, there was a temporary transfer of power to the vice president. For 85 minutes, Kamala Harris became the first woman in American History to hold presidential power! The Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution addresses presidential succession and disability. It clarifies that the vice president becomes president if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office, and establishes how a vacancy in the office of the vice president can be filled. It describes the temporary transfer of the president's powers and duties to the vice president. The vice president becomes acting president until the presidential powers and duties are returned to the president. The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was adopted in 1967. This was due to the tragic assassination of JFK in 1963. We discussed the events and circumstances that took place on Nov. 22, 1963. Next week will mark the 58th anniversary of the assassination pf President John F. Kennedy.
Bella is really behind project wise and lesson wise. She took her second quiz but has only done one project. I know she's been out a lot so like Sam, I'm trying to move her along with lessons.
