I was scheduled to work with Bella 4th period today to substitute for math. Bella & Sam had taken the PSAT this morning. They told me they were leaving school because Sam had a dentist appt.
Today we looked at the federal system of government. We looked at federalism, checks and balances, and powers of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. Who were Federalists and Anti-federalists? What is America like when the new government goes into effect and new president, George Washington becomes the first U.S. President in 1789?

Lesson moved from Tues. as Bella left school after the PSAT. We started class 20 minutes into the period so Bella and other high school students could do some relay races with the elementary students.
Bella read, analyzed, and discussed chapter 5 of A Thousand Splendid Suns. After reading she discussed how the complex characters (e.g., those with multiple or conflicting motivations) have developed over the course of the chapters she has read. She also discussed how they interact with other characters and advance the plot and develop the theme of family and sacrifice. She wrote a short paragraph describing the importance of family and sacrifice as she sees it in life.
Speaking Spanish and Instructional Gap Identification
Lesson Outline
Bella and I played Guess Who together.
Each time we played, we added more and more Spanish to the game.
We learned game specific vocabulary. I gave her feedback and helped her to clean up some slight deficiencies in her speech patterns.
She did a great job.
We then worked on her Spanish Quizzes Project. We spoke about a topic that appears to be a gap in the information that she would have been taught in a typical Spanish program in Florida.

Review of the Bones of the face and how they help in deciding what types of haircuts would be optimum for a particular bone structure.
Practical application of zero degree diagonal backward partings and haircut on the mannequin.
Discussion on the main muscles of the face.
Using face cleanser for glide... practical application of a basic facial massage routine.

Bella is getting more confident and less critical of herself when learning new skills as she sees progress.
She did an excellent job on her first haircut on her mannequin head!
Bella showed her ability to be a mature and compassionate professional when practicing her first facial massage routing on Andrew today.
There was a multitude of opportunities to "tease" her peer, but Bella offered sincere and positive comments instead.
Even though this day was a little hectic going from in-person to online and back to in-person, it ended up to be a very good turning point classfor Bella =)
