In today's class, we continued our discussion on mutations, including watching a video on frameshift mutations, which discussed the types of frameshift mutations there are and the types of problems they cause. At the end, we reviewed what we had learned about mutations over the past two days.
The Emancipation Proclamation: Creation, Context and Legacy
Lesson Outline
The Emancipation Proclamation is one of the most important documents in the history of the United States. It was an executive order that was issued by President Abraham Lincoln to go into effect on January 1, 1863. While it did not make slavery illegal and there was criticism surrounding the document, its existence brought on the abolition of slavery in 1865.
The Emancipation Proclamation is one of the most important documents in the history of the United States. The 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution outlawed slavery when it was ratified in December of 1865.
Analysis of Concetta Fatata's Alien Registration documents. She is Bella's great grandma and daughter of Giuseppe - she was 65 years old at the time of the documents. Her documents show that the family name was changed when entering the usa.
Today, Bella completed an IXL grammar activity on identifying sentence fragments. We then worked on the following assignment: If you were directing a production of the play, what effect would you want to create with Othello's entrance? In one version of the play, Othello enters framed in a doorway illuminated by brilliant light, dressed in a military uniform. In another version of the play, a thin Othello enters by leaning against a wall, dressed in a flowing white shirt and brushing a rose against his lips. What impression do you think each of these directors was trying to make? Write a paragraph response answering both questions.
In today's class, we watched a video on the effects of mutations on protein function, which includes missense, nonsense, and silent base substitution mutations. We stopped the video periodically to check for comprehension and at the end, we covered some review questions that Bella did very well answering.

Lesson Comments
Bella was virtual today and needed to leave the class 15 minutes early because she was coming in to school, so our session was only 30 minutes today.
We now have Concetta Fatata's alien registration form from NY that appears to prove that the family name was changed upon arrival to the usa. We further discussed the Italian food items at Doris'. Bella and Dad looked at the food/wine event in Boca and would like to pick a date.
Teddy Roosevelt's Impact on U.S. Politics & Gov't.
Lesson Outline
President Teddy Roosevelt's Square Deal included three goals: consumer regulations, preventing business corruption, and protecting the environment. He also broke up corrupt monopolies and became known as the trust buster. He also instituted regulatory bodies such as the FDA and the Department of Commerce and Labor. His foreign policy was focused on making the US a super power. To show off naval strength, Roosevelt sent a parade of warships to tour the world. He also created the Panama Canal and the Roosevelt Corollary, which kept Europe from interfering directly in Latin America.
Today, Bella and I discussed the way our opinions have changed about Othello based on Othello's entrance into Scene 2. Bella's assignment was as follows: Look closely at Othello's lines 17-28. Think about what he says and the way he says it. Does your impression of Othello differ now from the opinion you had formed based on the words of Lago, Roderigo and Brabantio in Scene 1? Write a paragraph analyzing the language of Othello's first full speech in the play, and explaining what it suggests to you as a viewer or reader.
