During today's class, we worked on Chapter 5. We started by watching a video and completing a set of questions based on it. Jaydn worked on answering the questions.
Using the poems, "Trees" and "A Soft Rain Will Fall" , today's lesson addressed the literary devices of : simile, rhyme scheme, personification and alliteration. After I defined each term and pointed out examples in the poem "Trees", Jaydn then studied stanzas in " A Soft Rain Will Fall" and identified these devices within the poem. As she had some difficulty with the concept of rhyme scheme, I provided assistance in this exercise as needed.
Jaydn was absent for 4th period, but she assured me when we met during 2nd period that she would be present for our 4th period class today. Unfortunately, Jaydn was not responsive to calls, texts and never joined the class that was open on Teams throughout 4th period.

Very odd as Jaydn was present for our 2nd period class today and she assured me she would present again, 45 minutes later for our 4th period class, but she was unavailable throughout 4th period.
Jaydn was absent for 5th period after lunch despite calls/texts and the class remaining open for her to join in Teams throughout the period. I've bumped her lessons ahead to the next few days.
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s represents a pivotal period in the fight against segregation and Jim Crow laws in America. Civil rights leaders and organizations led important protest and political actions that would eventually lead to major changes and protections against discrimination in America. Laws passed during the period made major steps to protections against discrimination in housing, employment, and hiring, and in expressing the right to vote. This progress was made on the backs of activists and marchers who were viciously attacked in non-violent protest and marches, particularly in the South. Reacting to public perception following the broadcast of incidents in the South and the violence of Ku Klux Klan and other white nationalist attacks, many laws were enacted that would go on to end the period of separate but equal and work instead toward a more equitable America. The concepts of de jure and de facto segregation were introduced to Jaydn a the end of class and we discussed them until she easily understood their differences.

Jaydn attended BOTH her period 1 and period 4 history classes today.
The goal of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s was to end segregation and discrimination against Blacks. It fought for equal rights and freedoms for Black Americans. The significant events that occurred during this period include the Brown v. Board of Education ruling, the emergence of the Little Rock Nine, the Montgomery bus boycott, the emergence of Freedom Riders groups, and the March on Washington. These events helped address many issues that Black people were facing and the important role of the Civil Rights Movement. The movement helped propel the government into creating laws that fostered equality among all and end of discriminatory practices against the Black People such as segregation. However, the movement faced oppression and suppression from the government, assassination and murder of top leaders, and lack of funding. More than ten of its leaders were assassinated, while most faced threats and physical harm. Despite the challenges, the Civil Rights Movement was largely successful in promoting equality and reducing racial discrimination.
