Today we almost completed lesson 1 "The Home Row Keys" however Oliver needs to complete the rest of this lesson at home. I will send home the website , username and password with him.
We also created a folder and a journal to keep our research and notes in for future reference. We will be continually going back and revising what we know throughout each research project so it will be important to establish an organizational system. We also learned about proper ways to search for information and ways to determine if a source is valid and useful.
Today Marina and I got a little bit of a late start on our keyboarding class. We were putting the finishing touches on her multiplication book. Marina was able to complete 3 lessons in the intermediate section. Today Marina did a great job of keeping her hands on the home row!
Today Oliver and I began a keyboarding program which has lessons that build progressively onto each other. These beginning lessons focus on using the home row and the f/j as the anchor keys. Oliver did very well. We also began exploring the subject of research. We brainstormed lists of why people research and then a list of possible research topics. We will continue to revisit these lists as we continue to learn and apply the research skills.
Today Marina began the intermediate typing program. The words in this lesson were much longer and more challenging the previous lesson. Some of the words were over 10 letters long. Marina worked extremely hard on her typing skills. She was typing an average of 13 words per minute. She was focusing and working as hard as she possibly could to make her grandmother proud. She knew that she was seeing her tonight and wanted to show her how well she is doing with her typing skills.
Today Will printed out the slides from his Powerpoint presentation. He presented his project to Ms. Judie. Will finished class by practicing commonly misspelled words on his typing program.
I sent Ethan the link to a new typing program that I have created for him. Unfortunately, the website would not load on his computer. In fact, no website would load. I asked him to go to another computer (bringing the laptop with him so that I could still monitor him) and type in the website and use it on the other computer. Ethan was adamant that Mom would not approve, however, so we didn't do that. Ultimately, between walking around the house to try to find a connection and debating over the use of a second computer, we did not accomplish much during today's lesson.
Will and I found the last picture for his Washington D.C. Powerpoint. Will found several pictures of the Supreme Court Building. He added and removed most of them from his slide, until it looked the way he wanted. He will add the traditions to his Powerpoint next class.

The weather was really bad. Will wanted to go see the rain and left a little early to get to his car before it started pouring again.
