Atticus and I worked on character design by creating a character from a stick figure design. Once we completed the general shape phase, I made copies of the design and instructed him to complete the design of his character.

Atticus and I began with a quick check of this weekend's homework in which he chose any 10 out of the 12 problems from a spiral review. He did a great job, showing all of his work. Then, he completed Friday's quiz on using all operations with decimals, scoring a 90%. Today's lesson looked at how to multiply fractions. We completed examples using folded paper and quick pictures to represent multiplying a part of a part before multiplying the numerators and denominators straight across. For homework, Atticus was assigned 10 practice problems on multiplying fractions, simplifying when necessary.
Today, Atticus and I completed our daily gardening log observations and measurements. We then introduced our next unit on the cell. We researched what the largest and smallest organisms are. We then discussed what both of these organisms have in common: they are made of a cell/cells. We discussed attributes unicellular organisms have in common, and what unicellular and multicellular organisms have in common. We watched a video of mitosis: cell division. We discussed that mitosis is when a unicellular organisms replicates itself, and multicellular organisms use mitosis to repair cells.
As the novel's plot revolves around the authenticity of a sculpture reputed to be the work of Michelangelo, we today read an article about the life of Michelangelo, and discussed how to highlight important ideas within the article. Atticus then answered a series of open ended comprehension questions using full sentences, conventional usage , and supporting details from the article.
This morning, Atticus and I reviewed last night's homework together. He asked for clarification on a few of the problems, specifically division with a decimal divisor and dividend. We reviewed the steps to solve those problems as well as the rules for all of the recent division-related problems. Then, Atticus took a quiz on using all operations with decimals presented as basic arithmetic and in word problem format. On a few questions, he asked for help on proper decimal placement while setting up his problems but worked independently to complete them. Our time was shortened a little for a fire drill and Atticus has 2 questions to complete on Monday.
