Today we examined the purpose of a business plan as well as the requisite format and details that should be included. Carson prepared a draft plan yesterday that we discussed and supplemented during today's session. We first worked on the elements of the Executive Summary focusing on the need to describe exactly what the product does and is as well as considering an appealing name for the product and the company. Next, we examined what to include in the company description , specifically what type of biographical information to include about the owner(s) and its consultants.We further discussed the role of a patent in business and in a business plan. Third, we discussed the prospective market, its size and growth potential . Carson took notes and made revisions to his draft as we addressed each item of the plan. We will continue and compete this exercise this week in class.

Carson and I met on Teams. He did not complete the work his mother asked me to send him yesterday, so we used that as an activity to complete today. The questions asked Carson to simplify the exponent expression using only positive exponents. We used the properties of multiplication and division, power to power, and negative exponents to simplify completely. Once Carson got the hang of it, I reintroduced him to radicals and how to simplify. He recalled how to use the factor tree to simplify.
Today Carson and I met on Teams today. We had had a conversation about foods and using the phrase "Yo me gusta..." and "No me gusta..". We discussed favorite foods and I learned Carson likes Pizza. We went through a check list of things like bread, vegetables, fish, and fruit. Carson was able to use the new vocabulary in complete sentences.
Carson completed the lab "Motor On" which experimented with creating a motor powered by an on/off switched electromagnet. We discussed how it works and he answered the follow-up questions. He completed the Investigation "Electric Motor Mechanics" and watched the animation "Electric Motors" which demonstrates how an alternating current electromagnet creates a motor.
We continued watching the documentary detailing Nixon’s ruthless ambition, historic visits to Communist China and the Soviet Union in 1972 helping thaw the Cold War, and his mistrust of key aides, especially foreign policy adviser Henry Kissinger.
Continue to Read Lesson 3 and discuss how President Bush led a successful military coalition to expel Iraq from Kuwait in the Persian Gulf War. Answer check for Understanding Q’s on P. 852 1 & 2.
We addressed my comments and suggestions directed to the first paragraphs of the explanatory essay. Carson first corrected run-on sentences , and we then discussed how to reorganize the sentence order of the second paragraph so as not to disrupt the explanation . Next ,given the purpose of the essay, to inform, we addressed editing sentence structure and word choice by using the command or imperative voice to eliminate the "you" sentence structure.Last, I provided guidance on drafting a conclusion that explained the importance of the essay's thesis to its audience. Carson started on his final paragraph that he will complete before Monday's class.
