Liam and I began our session with a calendar activity - identifying the month, day of the week, date, time, weather, and his feelings. Liam then completed a warm-up activity, completing ten practice problems. Liam then continued working on a readiness test - completing one page. Lastly, Liam completed ten minutes on Math Prodigy - reading bar graphs and answering questions. Next week, we will continue Lesson 1.1 - finding the total number of objects in equal groups.

Liam reviewed his vocabulary words, and read the story, " Gary the Dreamer." We discussed the plot, characters, sequence of events, and the genre. He had no trouble explaining that it was a true story told by the main character. He answered comprehension questions in writing. We covered the concept of compound words, and he wrote the definition and examples in his notebook. We worked on an activity with antonyms, short u words, and words ending in nd and st.

Liam then completed a warm-up activity, answering ten math problems. Liam then continued working on a readiness test, completing two pages. Liam then completed a fluency activity on division. Lastly, Liam completed ten minutes on Math Prodigy - adding three-digit by 2-digit numbers and identifying the ones, tens, and hundredths place.

Lesson Outline
We reviewed his vocabulary words, and then read today's story, "Room To Grow." We discussed how people from different cultures can help their communities. In today's story we discussed the main characters, the plot, story sequence, and outcome. He answered questions about the story in writing in his notebook. We introduced the concept of pronouns. He worked on an activity with words that ended with a k sound.
Liam learned to design and build two different parachutes using the materials given. We decided how to attach the strings to the cowboy and then attached them to the coffee filter. He drew his designs from his activities, and then made his parachutes. We tested both parachutes to make sure they created drag. They were both successful.
Liam successfully imaged, read, and manipulated sounds in simple syllables. He read three more lists of Star Words, and we will continue reading from the following levels until we find his starting point. He read a grade-level passage at a rate of 77 words correct per minute. Finally, he finished the Toy Story book he started on Monday.

Liam and I began our session with a warm-up activity - completing ten questions, focusing on math skills. Liam them completed a multiplication fluency activity, focusing on fours, fives, and sixes. Liam then completed two activities - working on a readiness test independently. After completing the readiness test, we will go over the missed problems.

I love working with Liam. He has a wonderful attitude.
Liam reviewed his vocabulary words from Monday. He read a story about dream catchers and answered in writing comprehension questions about the story. He wrote down in his notebook his new vocabulary words, and looked up their definitions demonstrating his knowledge and use of the glossary. He completed several activities using words in context that have the final k sound. He worked on several activities illustrating his proficiency with beginning sounds. He learned about common and proper nouns. He wrote their definitions into his notebook.
I introduced the concept of visualizing letters and sounds to Liam. He practiced visualizing, air writing, and reading letters and simple syllables. He also read a list of sight words to establish a baseline. We stopped after three lists and will continue next session. To finish up, he read a loved book, ‘Toy Story, Christmas Toys.’ I enjoyed my first session with Liam very much.
