We randomly selected one to two questions from each major topic in PJ's textbook which we covered over the year and on which he was queried to note his overall understanding and recall. PJ remembered many of the subject-specific terms for which he wrote definitions in his vocabulary spiral notebook, and explained them in his own words. His explanations indicated very good comprehension of the material and retrieval skills. PJ was reminded that Thursday and Friday we will be taking items off his walls and clearing his desk in preparation for the summer.
Today, I introduced PJ to a new full-body workout routine with dumbbells.
I also told him about the 4 exercises that will make him stronger for the rest of his life.
We started with a dumbbell exercise called the "farmer's carry."
Next, we did a full-body plank,
The next 2 exercises we will do the rest of the week.

PJ was interested in making a red velvet cake as a special treat for our last cooking class of the year. We looked up some recipes and watched a very interesting video about the history of red velvet cake and the distinctions that separate a red velvet cake from other, similar cakes. We also learned about velvet cakes in general and how they differ from other sponge cakes, as well as researching recipes for cream cheese frosting and a strawberry topping to go with our cake
We worked on cumulative review questions on simplifying algebraic expressions. Then we practiced finding the surface area of a house. Next, we completed word problems.
Today, PJ started by doing 4 laps on the perimeter of the field.
We then came back to the pavilion and did a dumbbell workout.
We finished with a cool down and a full body stretch.
We discussed topics in the news today - including but not limited to Biden's diagnosis of aggressive prostrate cancer. We also discussed local, national and international current events.
PJ was in a good mood and made continued progress on his horror-themed Blue’s Clues project. He decided to draw Blue as Saw. I first let him attempt it independently then guided him to break the design into basic shapes. His second version was much more on-model and closer to the original character while still maintaining his stylistic twist.
