Work on review packet to prepare for a quiz on Lesson 2: Energy Transfers and Transformations.

We discussed character traits, cause and effect, and actions and consequences this afternoon. Nicky was able to explain his rationale for consequences and outcomes when given various hypothetical situations, and he drew upon personal experiences and anecdotes that added interest, depth, and dimension to our discussion.

Today we worked on the qualifying adjectives that we started to study, he added more adjectives to his vocabulary notebook and created new sentences. Then, we began to study the seasons of the year.

Nicky did not pass the chapter test. So, I decided to take a few more days to review surface area and volume over the next few sessions.
Today, we reviewed the different 3-D shapes, what are they called, how many faces and edges do each have. Finally we reviewed the formulas for each shape step by step. This will help him to understand the formula reference sheet during the test. I noticed that he skips one part of the formula when answering questions. So I also asked him to write out all the steps when doing his test. Revisit 3-D shapes, name them and review all the notes. Calculate surface area.

Nicky helped me to finish the spots we were working on last class and added the final coat of paint. We also started work on the outlines of one of the characters.

Nicky helped me to work on the school mural outside. He helped me fix some areas that needed extra coats of paint.

Today he learned some adjectives in Spanish and has reviewed all the words learned during this week. He was able to practice spelling, pronunciation, and identifying whether the word was a verb or an adjective.

Nicky and I spent the first portion of class viewing a funny, but educational, video covering many of the concepts we covered in Ch 3/4 concerning American Independence. We then went through an online Chapter 3 review sheet.

Lesson 3: Particles in Motion – We learned about kinetic molecular theory of matter which explains how particles move. The transfer of thermal energy depends on the movement of particles in the material. Then we learned that particles make up all matter and particles are in constant, random motion. Particles constantly collide with each other and with the walls of their container. Next we discovered that temperature is the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in material. If the particles in a material have little kinetic energy, the material feels cold. The SI unit for temperature is kelvin (K) and another temperature unit often used by scientists is Celsius (C).
