Today, Libby traced and wrote the number 4, counted groups of 4 objects, recognized 4 amongst other digits, and practiced writing the word four. Then, she used flashcards to match the digits 1 - 4 with their word form. Next, Libby created a number line on the whiteboard to show the numbers 0 - 10 which she used to fill in missing numbers between sets of numbers. Libby finished by using her hundreds chart to count to 100 and had fun completing mazes.
Discuss what interests are and how they could be anything, like animals, foods, hobbies, etc. I will model a T-shirt on the whiteboard showing different drawings of things I like: flowers, my dogs and cat, strawberries, etc. Have Libby then do her own cut out and tell me what her favorite things are.
Libby and I practiced the following yoga poses: mouse, cow, cat, shoulder stand, leap frog, tiger, shark, alligator, jellyfish and others. We remembered to breathe deeply in and out through each pose.
In the textbook, read about what being unique means. Looking at the pictures, tell how the children are similar and different. Have Libby tell what is similar and different between her and her family members.
Interactive Calendar Vocabulary Hungry Caterpillar Apple Prints ABC's
Lesson Outline
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read, recited, and wrote her ABC's. She read her vocabulary words. She watched a reading of the Hungry Caterpillar. She completed several reading comprehension activities pertaining to the story. She made a drawing of the caterpillar using apple prints.
We practiced this phrase extensively during class.
She would repeat the phrase several times. Then we would take a short break (30 seconds or less) and she would attempt to use the phrase.
She did an excellent job of repeating the phrase in succession with essentially no break. However, once we would take the 30 second break, she would forget the phrase.
So, we started to build strategies for her. She tied this phrase to other similar phrases like drink please and bathroom please.
She was able to cement thank you into her brain first. The next strategy was to break the word comer (eat) into two sounds co and mare and then tie those sounds to images of English words.
By the end of class Libby was able to use the phrase much more independently than when we started.
However, we will continue to work on it in the future to help her build complete mastery.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She wrote and recited her lowercase ABC's. She labeled the parts of an apple. She reviewed and wrote about living and non-living things. She worked on reading her science vocabulary words.
Libby began with the number of the day activity. She practiced writing the number 4 in standard and word form, circled it on a number line, colored 4 base ten blocks, and wrote the 1 less and 1 more digit. Then, Libby counted items shown and wrote how many and colored connecting cubes to represent the numbers 0 - 5 in descending order. To finish, we played a game of one more. We took turns rolling a die, using the number line to find the next number or one more, and covering that amount on the gameboard. The player to first get 4 in a row won the game.
