Libby completed her interactive calendar, read and discussed her vocabulary words, finished her calendar talk and calendar writing, put together her daily sentence puzzle, worked on her phonics activities, and observed the baby chicks.
Libby and I continued to work on the ways to make 10. She wrote part-part whole models to show the different ways to make 10 and used small counting cubes to model each part. Then, the cubes were pushed together and placed on the whole to show a total of 10. Next, we used the same models to solve subtraction problems starting with 10. Libby created stories and took a part from 10 to find the other part.
This morning, Libby and I worked on the friends of 10. We used an erasable 10-frame and 2 colored dry erase markers to show the different ways to make 10 and wrote the two corresponding number sentences for each. Then, Libby wrote the number sentences on her paper and circled the "friends" with colored markers to make friend bubbles.
I made up a new game for Libby and Teddy with a ball and the volleyball net.
We are going to call it "Ultimate Ball".
The object of the game is to throw it over the net without your opponent catching the ball.
If they do this successfully, they score a point.
I began with visual, auditory, and blending drills to strengthen reading and spelling skills. I dictated CVC words for Libby to write (rat, fat, fit, fix). Changing the initial, medial, and final sounds was challenging, but Libby sounded out the words successfully. We reviewed her irregular word list and added a new word: for. Libby read a decodable reader, "Pam Likes to Nap." To conclude, we finished "Where Are You Going, Baby Lincoln?"
