Libby learned about nocturnal animals. She read a Scholastic News Magazine about the Bat and Aye-Ayes. From the article we learned how these animals are alike and how they are different. She was able to read and understand the graph, explaining their differences and similarities. She answered questions pertaining to the graph.

She read and discussed the story, "The Pigs, the Wolf and the Mud." She was able to explain the setting, the characters, the story details, and the sequence for the story.

Libby listened to problems, drew comparison counters, completed bar models, wrote the corresponding subtraction sentence, and determined how many more or fewer.

Libby read and wrote her spelling words in ABC order. She practiced reading her new high frequency words and then putting them in sentences. She completed several activities using CVC short u words.
Libby and I read briefly at the start of class, and she read some of the words to me. Then, Libby made ghosts by blowing with a straw on a blob of watered-down white tempera paint to create the ghosts’ bodies. Using the same paint, she painted some bones on paper. We will let them dry and and glue them on the black painted toilet paper rolls that will be strung together with yarn to create a chain. We will decorate the cafeteria for our Halloween party. Libby also created a scarecrow today. She followed a step-by-step process using critical thinking. We also worked on her control over her marking tool to strengthen her motor skills.

Today's lesson looked at how counters and a bar model can be used to compare and subtract. Libby listened to problems, completed bar models, wrote the corresponding subtraction sentence, and determined how many more or fewer. While working, we focused on the vocabulary terms compare, subtract, difference, how many more, and how many fewer.
Libby worked on a craft showing the 3 branches of government. She cut out a tree with 3 branches, each named with a different branch of government, as well as leaves showing descriptions of each branch. Then, Libby glued the tree onto a piece of construction paper, glued the leaves onto the correct branch, and colored all of the parts.
