Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She put together a parachute that she used to replicated how a spiderling goes ballooning when it leaves the egg sac.
Libby was introduced the phrase I eat today. We started our session with a quick game of memory to give her ample repetition with our vocabulary words.
We then used clay to make different inanimate objects that we eat and that we don't eat. We made broccoli, peas, a phone, a drumstick (chicken or turkey), and Libby made a doll. As she was using the clay, we went over the phrases "I eat" in Spanish and I don't eat. We repeated each phrase a couple of times. I then pointed to each of our clay objects and asked in Spanish - "do you eat .... ?" She would then answer with either I eat or I don't eat in Spanish. This is designed to help Libby take a word that she already knows like comer (to eat) and hear it in different conjugations: comes, como (do you eat? and I eat). Thus, laying a foundation for further understanding of the many Spanish conjugations to come.
Libby used glitter markers, a dry erase board, and writing paper to practice sight words and short vowel words. She read Phonics stories. I read Thanksgiving books to her.
Recall what Thanksgiving is about. Read "Clifford's Thanksgiving Visit". Talk about how we get together with friends and family and what kinds of things we eat. Complete the parts of a turkey page by filling in the letter blocks with the correct words.
Libby and I used the phrase gracias por to help her express gratitude for the things for which she is grateful.
We made a gratitude board. She searched for pictures of things that she appreciates in her life. She printed pictures of those items and cut them out. As she would place them on her board, she would say gracias por... and then glue the picture in place.
Today, Libby continued the lesson on classifying and counting data. We focused on classifying groups of objects based on whether they had or did not have a particular attribute. Libby counted the amount of each group, recorded the total amounts with tally marks, and wrote the amount for each group.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She learned about underwater spiders, and performed an experiment proving how spiders trap air in order to survive and thrive in an underwater home.
Libby began the next unit, classifying and counting data. Today's lesson focused on classifying objects into categories. Libby classified objects into two groups based on whether they had or did not have a particular attribute and described why they were in each category. Then, she worked on a Thanksgiving turkey craft that she will continue tomorrow.
