Libby used paint pens to practice writing short vowel words. She used her new pencils to write the words on her writing paper. We watched a video of a Laura Numeroff story. We reviewed the authors and illustrators we have discussed.

Lesson Comments
Libby is late every day. It's good that I have her for two sessions.
Today we reviewed our basic list of colors/shades including: green, red, blue, yellow, white, black. Per request, we discussed purple as well.
We then made a colored drawing of a blue house with a red window. Outside the house were some purple flowers and a green yard.
Later we played I spy. We took turns and specified whose turn it was by saying the phrase I spy in Spanish.
At the end of class, we reviewed all our colors to provide repetition.

Lesson Comments
As a note, Jason joined us during Libby's session. So, this may have served as more of a review for him while it was relatively new material for Libby.
Having another student present, added a fun element to some of the games that we played and encouraged Libby and Jason in some unique ways.
Interactive Calendar Months Christopher Columbus Floating Experiment
Lesson Outline
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and wrote her months of the year. She read her vocabulary words. She completed several activities pertaining to Christopher Columbus. She
discovered how to make a boat out of aluminum foil and predicted how many paper clips it would take to sink her boat.
This morning, Libby watched a quick video on the number 8 and how it's correctly written before she practiced many times with proper number formation. Then, she worked on counting 8 and 9 in her textbook. Libby counted groups of 8 or 9 objects and drew counters in 10 frames to model the total amount in the groups. We finished our time with a game of Go Fish using cards numbered 1 - 10 to help with number recognition.
Discuss symbols we see on signs on the road: what has Libby noticed while riding in the car. Use pg 54 - 55 in workbook about different signs and their shapes. Then go over what each means and how they keep us safe on the road. Do page 79 of textbook together.
Talk about how we get to different places: car, train, plane, etc. Read pages 74 - 77 in textbook together and look at how transportation has changed. Compare/contrast types of vehicles (pg 77) and which ones we have been on before. Discuss which are better at certain times for short and long trips.
Libby and I worked on 6 basic colors/shades in Spanish.
She was presented black, white, green, blue, red, yellow.
By the end of class she was able to pass a verbal quiz with 5 out of 6 correct. For the quiz, she would point to specific objects around the room that were the color requested by the teacher.
We then used the colors to play the game I spy. Our focus for today's class though stayed primarily on the colors as they are new material for the class.
I was very proud of Libby's ability to use the phrase "my turn" today.
She was able to use it at the appropriate times with minimal reminders. Great job Libby!
Interactive Calendar Christopher Columbus Floating Experiment
Lesson Outline
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read, discussed, and watched a video on Christopher Columbus. She explored and completed an experiment that demonstrated why things float.
Libby began with the number of the day activity. She practiced writing the number 7 in standard and word form, circled it on a number line, colored 7 base ten blocks, showed 7 in a 10 frame, and wrote the 1 less and 1 more digit. Today's lesson practiced counting 6 and 7. Libby counted groups of 6 or 7 objects and drew counters in 5 frames to model the total amount in the groups.
