Responsibilities of mayors, city commissioners, and senators
Lesson Outline
Responsibilities of mayors, commissioners, and senators: Ethan completed the word Search, sentence order, and a written paragraph describing how to protect our earth, he mentioned not to cut down trees, don't dirty water (pollute), take out the trash, and don't litter. He decided he will be able to vote in 10 years when he is 18. He didn't like it that years ago in England people could not choose the religion of their choice, he was glad that in the US we have the freedom to make that choice. Great job Ethan
Shrinking the Distance: Marina was shown how travel innovations helped our country grow. The Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railways were built along with The Erie Canal and The National Road allowing freight and passengers to travel in shorter time. These innovations shrunk the distance between East and West. Marina did a good job filling out the word puzzle and calculating distance of each railroad. Great Job Marina!
Today Gwendolyn and I started working on the Southeast region of the United States. Her project for this region is creating a monopoly. Today Gwendolyn designed & painted her monopoly board. Next class we will finish the board and start researching the cities and major locations in the state of her choosing.
Bobby explored many different cultures that are a part of our state. These included Latino, European, and Caribbean. He explored primary sources such as an original certificate of residence, as well as pictures and videos of dance. We talked about places he has been as well.
The Western Expansion Communication and Shipping: Marina was introduced to the Pony Express and telegraph as means of delivering mail and communication. The Pony Express delivered mail from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. It took about 8 to 10 days travel time; before it took at least 25 days to deliver mail. Young horsemen would ride horses through
Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, to California, risking life daily. The Pony Express was soon replaced by telegraph taking only minutes to send a message. Good Job Marina.
Today Stephen and I began by reading a book about what it takes to be president. Then Stephen gathered information and a picture of James Madison which he added to his baseball card. Great work today Stephen!
Bobby read about different places in the state of Florida and decided he would like to create a travel powerpoint to highlight different fun things for kids to do in different counties around Florida. We brainstormed, created a plan, and began the creation of a powerpoint. He learned about different aspects of powerpoint, as well as reviewing Florida geography.
