Teddy completed his interactive calendar, read and discussed his vocabulary words, finished his calendar talk and calendar writing, worked on his phonics activities, put together his daily sentence puzzle, and read and discussed his Scholastic News Magazine about America.
Teddy worked on IXL activities and continued working on math and English skills. The benefit of using the IXL app is that it identifies areas that are in need of improvement and offers continued practice. Teddy has shown improvement in phonics, and although he prefers doing exercises in math, he has been compliant in following directives and completing activities in both subject areas. Today we worked on syllables. I explained that words are made up of syllables, and each syllable has one vowel sound. To count syllables, I showed teddy that he could try clapping as he said each part of a word. I also showed him that he could also count how many times his jaw dropped as you said each part of the word We practiced with a few of these strategies (clapping and jaw drops) to figure out how many syllables certain words have After a bit of prompts and practice, Teddy improved his ability to figure out the number of syllables in words and appeared to enjoy this exercise.
Teddy completed his interactive calendar, read and discussed his vocabulary words, finished his calendar talk and calendar writing, put together his daily sentence puzzle, worked on his phonics activity, and read about the sun, the moon, and the stars.
Teddy continued work on his jewelry box today and made strong progress. In addition to the box, he creatively sculpted a small keychain out of clay, which showed great initiative and imagination.
Today, Teddy and I worked on the concept of number bonds and their related fact families. Teddy completed part-part whole models by finding the missing parts. Then, he used the completed number bonds to answer addition and subtraction problems verbally. Next, Teddy found the rule of input and output tables and filled in the missing values. Finally, Teddy wrote the numbers 1 through 30 while focusing on the correct number formation.
Since Mr. Kevin was out, I let Teddy decide what he wanted to do for class. He asked if we could play Monopoly. While playing, I focused on counting skills including counting the number rolled on the dice, counting the number of spaces to advance on the board, and counting the amount of money needed to purchase a property. We had a nice time learning, counting, and playing Monopoly.
