Understand Place Value
Lesson Outline
Remington completed 5 questions from his daily review and we verbally discussed yesterday's lesson on even and odd numbers. Then, he worked on a skip counting by 2s maze to help recognize even numbers while practicing how to skip count. Today's lesson focused on understanding place value in the ones and tens place. Remington used base ten cubes to model 2-digit numbers to help him find the value of each digit. We will continue working on this lesson tomorrow as Remington struggled with this concept.

Lesson Comments
A "caveman skit" was created which had Remington dig through layers of the earth (which he has studied) to find gold nuggets. He play-acted with me and he was excited and engaged in the activities of the skit. His intelligence and energy shined through!

Layers of Soil
Lesson Outline
I prompted Remi to write or draw a reflection of what he's learned in Science and Science Lab. Remi chose to draw pictures. At this point, he was able to indicate that he had learned about the soil layers and made edible soil without the green coconut.
For the remainder of the session, we read from the book "Rocks, Crystals, and Minerals".

Birds, Nest, and Birds' Eggs
Lesson Outline
The sun catchers we made last class did not look so good, so we will try to make them again. Remington's clay cupcake and pizza are not dry enough to paint. We will paint them next class.

We read Bird Builds a Nest by Martin Jenkins. Remy enjoyed the story. He painted two cardboard birds. He handled the paintbrush and paint very well and pays close attention to detail. Then he created a nest for his birds out of yarn scraps and made birds’ eggs out of clay.

Good work, Remington!

Increasing Our Heartrate
Lesson Outline
We began by stretching our muscles to avoid injuries. Then, Remi jogged a lap to warm up. He had to take a restroom break, so we went inside. Once he was done, we went back outside. At that point, Remi ran a lap and took note of his heartrate. He noticed that it "was pounding" thus he had increased his heartrate. Then, Remi ran the obstacle course from last week. Lastly, he created his own obstacle course with cones and ran it twice. To clean up, he ran to get the cones and completed clean up in 43 seconds.

Even and Odd
Lesson Outline
Remington began with 5 questions from his daily review booklet before our lesson on even and odd numbers. We used counting cubes to model even numbers as pairs and odd numbers as pairs plus one more. Then, he colored the even-numbered columns on a hundreds chart for reference, which was hung on his wall. Finally, Remington completed the lesson's practice problems on determining if numbers were even or odd using cubes or shading ten frames to make pairs.
