Pete the Cat and The Perfect Pizza Party and Suncatchers
Lesson Outline
First, we made suncatchers with clear Elmer's glue and food coloring. Remington liked to swirl and mix the colors in the glue. They should be dried next class, so he can take them home.
Then we read Pete the Cat and The Perfect Pizza Party and identified the sounds Remington is learning in Reading with Ms. Pam. Pete with the “e” at the end makes the “e” an open or a long vowel. If we cover up the “e,” Pete becomes pet and the “e” is a short or closed vowel. We discussed our favorite pizza toppings and looked at the silly toppings shown in the book. Then I had Remington create a “pizza” collage by cutting and gluing different shapes and colors of felt to create a pizza with texture. It was good practice cutting and gluing. Then he rolled out some air-dry clay and made a cupcake to paint next class when it is dried.
He is doing really well in art class and working hard!
This morning, Remington and I focused on counting by ones to 100, taking turns saying each number. He struggled to remember the next 10, so we practiced skip counting by tens. Then, he was verbally given 2-digit numbers, and he was encouraged to recall the next number.
Remi and I reviewed the layers of soil. He will continue to take notes in his Science Notebook. Remi is very excited about our Science Lab for Wednesday. We will be making Edible Soil.
Remi and I reviewed mi casa, mi papa, mi mama, mi hermano, and mi hermana. Then, I gave Remi a quiz. He struggled with mi hermano and mi hermana.
Next, we worked on Spanish colors. Remi was prompted to repeat the Spanish color after me. Then, using the animal as a clue, he was able to determine most of the colors. Remi colored the animal, repeated the Spanish version, and wrote the English version in the box.
Remi and I went out back for P.E. We started with stretching our muscles to avoid injuries. Then, I had Remi jog the perimeter of the playground twice. Remi noticed that his heart rate increased. Next, I had him complete the obstacle course he ran last week. He was successful and noticed that his heart rate decreased. Since it was so hot, we went inside to play a game. Again, Remi chose Jenga. After a few games, I asked him to build with the magnetic slides. He built a two-story house with two attics. Lastly, we cleaned up, because it was time to go home.
We read the book "I Love the Earth". We reviewed what we learned last week regarding soil. Then, we began learning about the five layers: bedrock, parent level, subsoil, topsoil, and humus. Next, Remi took notes about the bottom two layers of soil. We are learning this as a lead-up to the EDIBLE SOIL LAB that we will conduct on Wednesday during Science Lab. Remi is very excited for the lab. :-)
Today, Remi and I worked from the Social Studies book and focused on community members. First, we focused on teachers and how they taught reading, writing, and numbers. Next, we focused on Watch Groups and Police. As towns got bigger, police forces were created. Then, we saw coopers making barrels to store things such as meat, eggs, and apples. They sealed the barrels so air and water would not get in. After that, we explored fireworks and the Fourth of July. We learned that John Adams said we should have fireworks on Independence Day to celebrate that we are free. Lastly, we looked at a fire in a town long ago. Everyone helps put out the fire. Neighbors help one another with mowing the grass, babysitting, putting the trash out, driving one another to appointments, and cooking and baking for one another.
We started by stretching out. Then, I had Remi complete an obstacle course. First, he had to crawl over each of the four tires. Next, he jogged to the playground equipment and climbed up the stairs and down a slide. After that, he ran around the picnic table and the play car. Lastly, he ran back and touched the tree. Then, Remi did it in reverse.
Since it was so hot outside, Remi and I decided to go inside and play Jenga. Miss Judie joined us, and we had a lot of fun.
