Bobby completed his outline organizing his research data on reform schools. He completed a daily edit. We reviewed the grammar skills of capitalization, commas, and apostrophes.
This afternoon we completed the questions for the chapter five review in preparation for our first assessment of the 2018 school year. Bobby had little difficulty in completing the questions on the rise and fall of both the Egyptian and Kush empires. He essentially completed his homework during class. Tomorrow we will review the homework and continue our work on the Anubis Death Mask which is really beginning to take shape. Go to www.rttscience.com to view our progress.
This afternoon we examined the physical features and the role of DNA in the animal cell. We learned more about chromosomes, nucleotides, amino acids and mutations. Bobby is encouraged to continue using his index cards in order to construct a word bank that will help learn and more importantly master a number of these key vocabulary terms. We will introduce the three different types of RNA during class tomorrow. Homework: none.
After warm-up and stretching, Bobby did wall ball squats, RDLs, thrust ups, stability ball, leg curls, glute bridge, calf raises, fire hydrants, curls and extensions, a cool down, and a stretch.
This morning we continued our review of those problems found in the chapter 5 review. Bobby expressed frustration when he attempted to do the homework problems which were virtually identical to those that we had done in class. He is very much aware of the fact that even though he may understand a given concept of a problem type in class, he has difficulty remembering it when he is alone at home. We worked through the homework problems which he completed with little issue.
Bobby organized his research information into an outline. He chose a topic for each paragraph. He then found details to support the topics and cited evidence from research.
This morning we moved forward in our exploration of genetics and how physical traits are passed from one generation to another. We are taking a closer look at the animal cell and examining the chemical structure of DNA, nucleotides and how different combination of four amino acids determine the composition of each of the chromosomes found on the DNA strand. Homework is to read pages 170-177.
We started our class today by reviewing the circumstances that led to the decline and fall of the Kush empire. We briefly described some of the many achievements that occurred during this time and also how the ancient Egyptians heavily influence the culture, architecture and engineering accomplishments of the Kush. Homework is to read chapter 5 only. We will be answering the questions at the end of the chapter during class on Tuesday.
This morning we started the new year by reviewing how to add and subtract fractions as we have been learning in chapter five. Much of our focus has been on finding the lowest common denominator before attempting to add or subtract a given fraction. We practiced on problems found on pages 238-239. Homework will be to complete #s 12-19, 24-31 and 36-43 on page 239.
Using the same technique for developing projections, Bobby completes most of the right elevation. Despite nearly three weeks holiday recess, Bobby shows good motivation and interest in today's activities. Great session.
