Brad started out with low verbal participation, but improved throughout the session. He has difficulty answering questions that are abstract. He does much better when he is able to look at something to give him visual input about the question being asked. Eye contact was good today and physical stim behaviors were far less than yesterday. I observed Brad walking down the hallway and he spontaneously said hi to each person he passed. When taking turns asking/answering questions, he had great difficulty generating questions. Instead, he uttered statements. That is a skill to be addressed later. He enjoyed the following directions activity and successfully followed verbal directions around the classroom. This was the end of a good week.
Completed the newspaper and tape form of his allosaurus. He is so polite..."May I have the tape, please." "Can I put the legs on now, please." He also asks questions like "How will we color it?" and he offers ideas ..."We can make the teeth with a plastic fork." He is very involved in his creation.
Brought multiplication write-on board for Brad to use - he completed all his multiplication facts 1 through 10 and didn't make any mistakes.

Brad worked better today, less "stimming" and needed fewer prompts to keep him on task. I think it was because it was different - he could write on the multiplication board and then erase lt.

Brad's verbal participation required much prompting today. He gave 12 verbal responses throughout structured session activities. He showed physical stim behavior 13 times, made eye contact 11 times, and required complete redirection 2 times. He was reluctant to take his turns reading out loud. When he offered a verbal answer, the answer was typically correct. Several times he replied 'I know', but would not offer the answer. We talked about answering questions when someone asks since verbalizing is one of the ways we can show what we know. His reminder for the remainder of the day is to 'Say it out loud'. During an emotion role play activity, Brad asked which picture showed me when I was little. This showed a curiosity about another person that I haven't yet seen in him. Toward the end of the session he apologized. When I asked him what he was sorry for, he said that he didn't do well today. I told him I was very happy with him and that he had done a good job, but reminded him that he needs to answer out loud. He got up and hugged me and reiterated 'You're happy with me?'. I assured him I was happy and that I thought he would have a great day. This was the most connection he has shown outwardly since I began to work with him. He was seeking approval and taking pleasure in receiving it.
