Josh did really well with the Apples to Apples vocabulary exercise. Because it was a little bit silly, it helped him relax and learn the words more easily. New words we worked on included: gallant, dauntless, tedious, monotonous, chaste, tactile, virtuous, tawdry, exorbitant, malleable, pliable, and consummate. On the practice test, Josh answered 11/16 correct.

Joshua was not in a good mood, but he powered through the lesson. He had a lot to say about the topic of equal rights and made some great connections between the struggle of African-Americans and Jewish-Americans. I was really proud of him for staying on topic and focusing on the matter at hand without major distractions.

Lesson Comments
Joshua has improved in his ability to identify important details of a text. We worked on narrowing the amount of text he highlights when finding the important detail (as in not highlighting the entire sentence but rather words/phrases). Joshua's attempted his first draft of his summary on his own, but was unable to connect supporting details for his main idea. However, he was again able to speak at length about the topic, so I took notes on his dictation and asked him to write his 2nd draft based off of those notes. It worked!

Lesson Comments
Joshua spent a full 2 hours working on editing and rewriting his 5 paragraph essay. The biggest challenge for him was focusing on a main idea and finding support for his details. He struggled to make his paragraphs longer than 3 sentences. That being said, when I asked him to talk about the topic, he had a lot to say. He has trouble transferring his thoughts to paper because his focus is entirely on finishing the task instead of the process.
