Celebration and Text work
Lesson Outline
Our first order of business today was to celebrate Cabo’s great work from yesterday. I gave him some free time as a reward.

After Cabo’s free time had expired, he worked in the textbook on pages 338-339 doing 2 different exercises. He performed the task at and A grade level of execution.

We then reviewed his sentences about the Isabella book from the day before. I gave him notes on minor improvements.

We previewed what we would cover in the text in our next class.

Quiz Day: Present Progressive and -Go verbs
Lesson Outline
Cabo studied for his Spanish quiz during a teacher guided review.

He then took his quiz. Cabo was focused and worked hard during this very brief quiz.

While I was grading his quiz, he had time to decompress from the stress from the quiz and to work on vocabulary.

I returned his quiz to him and gave him and reviewed the correct answers with him.

Cabo then wrote a series of summary sentences ( 20 Spanish Sentences in Total) for the chapters that he had read in the Isabella book. This served as a review of the book for him.

Cabo worked independently and at a high level for his current understanding of Spanish.

This was Cabo’s best day of the school year (during my time) so far! His focus and level of work were remarkable.

We discussed the final chapter of the book. This was a major milestone in Cabo's Spanish language aquisition journey. We were able to have a a brief, disjointed, but fundamentally sound conversation about chapter 10 of the book.

We celebrated Cabo's success.

Cabo and I took turn reading paragraphs from the textbook and discussing the content. We highlighted to the book's frequent use of the present progressive and its use of common phrases and thematic vocabulary.

Lesson Comments
It was obvious that Cabo was frustrated today. He let me know it was a personal matter from home. I communicated to him that we were only halfway through our schedules work for the day and offered to let him clear his head for a minute or two by walking outside or some other remedy. He told me that he would refocus and we could press on. He did an excellent job with the rest of the lesson. I was proud of him being able to focus despite the imperfect circumstances.

Reading in Spanish and Minor Review
Lesson Outline
Cabo reported being very tired at the start of class and seemed low energy.

In response, we eased into the day with a brief review of information that he had already learned this year, mapping his Spanish studies up to this point in the year in the process.

He gradually became more lively. We then dove into the textbook reading the introductory sections of Chapter 10. We analyzed the pictures and text and came up with ridiculous false cognates along the way for the vocabulary. While there was a gradual start, it was a productive session and we accomplished everything scheduled for the day.

Present Progressive
Lesson Outline
I presented a lesson on the board giving examples of the present progressive in Spanish and in English.

We then walked around the school discussing what different people were doing at the time that we observed them. We discussed their activities using the present progressive.

Cabo did a great job with comprehension and with his one word answers. As expected on the first day of a new concept, he struggled to use the conjugation flawlessly, but did an excellent job for his current level.

We also read Chapter 6 of the our Isabella book. Cabo’s comprehension of these chapters is superb.
