gendered nouns; numbers up to 30; making nouns plural
Lesson Outline
Phillip continued on last week's lesson on common endings to identify the gender of nouns in Spanish. He practiced with 1 written exercise. We took a break and went to numbers 1-30, most of which he already knew and remembered. I had Philip do some whiteboard identification practice (writing down the digits of the Spanish number called), then a few easy math problems in Spanish, then a reverse game where he told me a number and I told him a Spanish response and he had to verify if it was correct. For the second session, we returned to our nouns lesson and Philip did a computer listening exercise to identify if the definite article in Spanish.
Basic conversation practice; culture- greeting; gender of nouns
Lesson Outline
Phillip and I resumed reading comprehension and pronunciation practice to finish the last of our Ch 1 vocab model conversations. We then moved onto a reading on the beso in Spanish-speaking countries and what is a culturally appropriate way to greet based on country, context and gender. Finally, I checked Phillip's prior knowledge of how gendered nouns work in Spanish with the definite article.
Thanks, you're welcome/goodbye/ practising general conversation
Lesson Outline
Extended recess today. We completed our Ch 1 vocab list with formulae for politeness, as well as completed the ways to say goodbye. Philip did a written practice exercise on the topic and we went over it orally to practice pronunciation. We then started work on the last part of the vocab where we role-played the short model conversations in Ch 1 Contextos.
Ch 1 Contextos (vocab) on basic conversations and introductions- reading, writing, pronunciation, listening, memorization and culturally appropriate application. Also learned the Spanish names of some of our Spanish-speaking countries and their geographic locations.

Today, Phillip worked on learning how to say his Spanish alphabet, including its extra 4 letters. We discussed how Spanish accents work, played in turns where I spelled Spanish words for him that he had to write down and then he did the same for me. Then he did a computer audio exercise where he had to spell traditional Spanish full names. He did a very good job. We wrapped up class with the video introducing Chapter 1 vocabulary and material (greetings, basic conversation, telling time).
Our class was shorter (Thanksgiving meal schedule) but we used our time for introductions to get to know each other and for me to have an understanding of Phillip's prior learning in Spanish, how he feels about the subject and what he can recall.

Phillip seems to lack confidence in his capacity for linguistics, particularly relating to memorization. I explained to him the intentional memorizing that needs to occur with W/L studies.
