Richard worked hard on a short vowel sort activity. He completed activities to reinforce and review sight words. Richard listened to 'What About Bear?' online. We previewed the story to determine genre, setting, make predictions and identify print elements. Richard scored a 100% on a sequence/pattern assessment. He did well naming various numbers from 0-99. We reviewed the date and days of the week.

Richard did well with sentence dictation, as well as number dictation. We are working on spacing words and capitalization. He successfully wrote the names of given pictures. Richard enjoyed an activity in which he pasted items on a picture of a witch's cauldron and used time ordered words to describe the steps he took to make a 'witch's brew'. He did well creating patterns on paper and using manipulatives. He continues to enjoy adding one-digit numbers. Richard also did well filling in the missing numbers from 0-29.

After listening to nonfiction text, Richard did well answering questions, naming the genre and identifying a letter, word and sentence. He enjoyed a cut and paste, Halloween themed activity in which he sorted words and sentences. We continue to work on phonics - blending CVC words, determining the initial and final sound of words, rhyming and segmenting words. Richard practiced writing the letters X and Y in correct form. He takes pride in adding one digit numbers. He successfully ordered numbered (11-20), strips of a picture that resulted in a Halloween scene. We reviewed calendar skills and the days of the week.

Richard did well identifying rhyming pairs and coming up with an additional word that rhymed with the pair. Together, we read 'Nat and Sam'. Richard correctly identified the setting, answered literal questions and identified a letter, word and sentence. He was tasked with tracing lines that were not straight. Additionally, he practiced reading his sight words. Richard was pleased with his success with an addition page. He did well extending patterns and determining the missing numbers (0-10)in a series of numbers. We continue to practice identifying and naming numbers 11-20. We reviewed calendar skills. Additionally, Richard practiced writing the number 7.

Richard enjoyed participating in a school wide activity. He did well blending one syllable, short i words. Richard has begun to sound words out in his head, rather than vocalizing the blending process. We worked on identifying where a given pattern repeats itself in a sequence of pictures or manipulatives. He did well adding numbers to the sum of 7 and seems to have a good understanding of the commutative property of addition.

Richard practiced writing the letters V and W today. He did well blending CVC words that contain the short i sound. We previewed a story to determine setting, genre and make predictions. Richard did well retelling the story and making connections to his own experience. He enjoyed practicing phonic skills online. Manipulatives were used to illustrate number pairs that equal seven. Richard did well matching and comparing patterns. We continue to work on number recognition of numbers 0-20.

Richard is progressing with sight words. He read the, 'I Can See' story which was comprised of words and pictures. Given pictures, he did well determining if the short i sound was in the name of the picture. He is very good at determining if two one-syllable words rhyme. Today, for the first time, Richard wrote sentences that were dictated to him. Focus was on spacing between words, capitalization and end punctuation. He worked on comparing patterns, both on paper and with manipulatives. Richard was tasked with tracing, cutting out and ordering numbers 1-20. We continue to practice adding to the sum of 7.

Richard successfully completed patterns, both with manipulatives and on paper. We played a timed game in which Richard was tasked with reading as many one-digit numbers as he could in 2 minutes.

Richard practiced writing H, K and 6 in correct formation. He did well blending 3-letter words with the short a sound and determining if two words rhymed. Richard enjoyed listening to the book, 'Carrot Soup'. We discussed plot elements of setting, problem, solution and beginning, middle and end as they related to the book. Richard earned a 90% on an assessment on positions. He asked to play a game of number bingo where he identified numbers 0-20. We took a brief break in the middle of class to go outside to see a fire truck and listen to the firefighters.
