Lesson Outline
Given three pictures, Richard identified the two that rhymed and then named another word that rhymed with the two. He did well with both sentence and number dictation. Richard read a short story that was comprised of short vowel words and sight words. He practiced sight words, addition, reciting the days of the week and identifying numbers 0-20. Richard enjoyed a physical game that involved determining if given statements were facts or opinions.

Richard did well reading three letter words. He continues to practice identifying initial and final sounds, blending, segmenting and substituting. He really enjoyed listening to 'Grandpa Bud'. Focus was on setting, sequence, main character and genre. Print elements were reviewed. Fact vs. opinion was discussed. Given statements, Richard was tasked with determining if the statements were facts or opinions. We continue to practice telling time to the hour, number recognition 0-20 and days of the week. The strategy of 'counting on' for adding was introduced.

Richard was on a computer today, which worked much better than an IPad or phone. He seemed to pick up the difference between fact and opinion quickly. He loved the story!

Richard did well sounding out words to write the sentences dictated. We continue to work on spacing between words. Richard read his sight words and used each in a sentence. Together, we read, 'Jack Can'. Focus was on details, setting, end punctuation and print elements. Richard is doing well telling time to the hour. Unfortunately, they had some technical difficulties which caused the session to be cut short.
Richard enjoyed listening to the book, 'Put Me in the Zoo'. Genre, setting, making inferences and print elements were reviewed. Richard likes to predict what will happen next and explain why things happen in stories. Phonics practice included identifying the initial and final sound of given words, blending and segmenting words and counting the words in a sentence. Richard's IPad was having difficulty which caused the session to end.

The video call ended suddenly. Richard's mother called, after trying to fix the IPad, to say that she was taking the IPad to the Apple store and Richard would not be doing any more online learning today.

Richard worked hard to read a short, paper book that focused on the short vowel i. End punctuation (period, question mark, exclamation mark) was introduced and discussed. Given a picture, Richard was tasked with determining the short vowel sound heard. We continue to practice telling time to the hour, identifying and naming numbers 0-20 and adding to the sum of 10.

Richard persevered through reading the even though it was a bit of a challenge.
Richard did well on sentence dictation. He benefits from reminders to leave space between words. He enjoyed working on phonics on 'Reading Eggs' an online supplemental reading program. Telling time to the hour was introduced today. Additionally, pictures of objects were used to review the concepts of more and less, greatest and least.

He had fun following silly two-step directions.

Richard enjoyed determining the initial sound/letter on a Halloween themed phonics page. He did well reading CVC words and matching them to the corresponding picture. Richard practiced writing Y, y and 8 with correct formation. He is progressing in his ability to trace dotted, non-straight lines. Richard used manipulatives to make different number sets to equal the same sum. He did well on a Halloween, complete-the-pattern activity. Given pictures of two Halloween scenes, Richard was tasked with finding subtle differences.
