Lesson Outline
Richard practiced writing the letters n and h and the number 6 in correct formation. He read a brief story entitled, 'We Can' and then created another page to his own 'I Can' book. In phonics, we continue to practice blending words with the short a sound. Richard enjoyed listening to a book and answering literal and inferential questions. He did well following directions that included position words. Richard uses his fingers or manipulatives when adding numbers to the sum of 6. He enjoys closing his eyes and marking random numbers on a 100 grid. He is getting better at reading the numbers he has marked.

Given three pictures, Richard did well determining which two pictures rhymed and then came up with an additional rhyming word. We practiced identifying and differentiating a letter, word and sentence. Capitalization and end punctuation were introduced. Richard enjoyed a follow directions game that involved position words. He correctly put number cards 10-20 in order.

We continue to practice blending consonant-short a-consonant words. Richard did well determining if two words rhyme, naming the first and last sound and letter in a word and segmenting and blending compound words. He practiced writing numbers 0-5, adding numbers to the sum of 5 and putting numbered cards in the correct order from 0-10. Manipulatives were used to work on the concept of before and after. Additionally, the concepts of greater than and less than were introduced with manipulatives.

Richard completed visual discrimination activities based on his sight words. He was pleased to read another 'I Can' story that utilized words and pictures. Richard created a page in his own 'I Can' book. He practiced blending consonants, short a, and consonant words. He did well on letter dictation of capital letters. We continue to utilize concrete objects to practice position words. Today, focus was on the concepts of before and after. Richard did well determining if two sets had an equal number of objects. He is improving in his ability to identify two-digit numbers.

The text was comprised of both words and pictures. He began to make his own 'I Can' story. Given pictures, Richard did well determining the pictures that had the short a sound in their names. We continue to practice numbers using manipulatives. Richard does well writing numbers 0-5. He asked to play a game of number bingo with numbers 0-20.

Richard completed a placement assessment for a supplemental, online program. He did well following oral directions that included position words. We continue to practice beginning and ending sounds, blending, segmenting, deleting and rhyming. Richard practiced writing the number five in the correct direction. He did well on number dictation with numbers 0-5. Richard has a good sense of the concept of zero and the commutative property of addition. Richard enjoyed playing a game of number bingo with numerals 0-20. We continue to practice identifying 11, 12, 13 and 14.

Richard practiced writing the letters M and N and the number 5. He completed his 'Pokemon' book by drawing a picture and writing about the author(himself).The 'Corduroy' book was reread and then used to focus on the main character's appearance, actions, feelings and thoughts. Richard did well using the text and pictures to support his answers. In phonics, we continue to work on blending, segmenting and deleting. Richard did well on a 'Concept of Print Assessment'. He enjoyed building a house with blocks which was then used to review the position words over, under, on, top and bottom.

Richard did well identifying the elements of fantasy and real life. He enjoyed listening to a 'Corduroy' book and was able to correctly sequence the story. We continue to work on determining if two words rhyme, identifying and writing the initial and final sound of given words, and determining the words in a sentence. Today, we also worked on blending, segmenting and deleting parts of compound words. Richard is quite pleased with the 'Pokemon' book he is writing and will complete it tomorrow. The positions of top, middle, bottom, inside and outside were practiced with manipulatives. Addition up to the sum of five using manipulatives was also practiced. Richard asked to close his eyes and mark spots on a hundred chart and then read the number marked.

Richard practiced writing the capital letters that begin in the top left corner (F, D, E, P, B, R, M and N). He did well on a fact/real vs fantasy, cut and paste activity in which he listened to a statement and then determined if it should be glued on the fact or fantasy side of the page. Richard is becoming more confident in listening to a word and then identifying the initial and/or final sound and writing the corresponding letter. He was pleased to complete another page in the Pokemon book he is composing. We continue to practice his sight words. Richard earned a 100% on a sorting and classifying quiz. He was tasked with writing single digit numbers that were dictated. We began working on position and location words today. Richard did well using manipulatives to add up to the sum of 5.

Richard practiced writing the letters N and M, as well as the numbers 3 and 4 in correct formation. Richard's interest in Pokemon is being utilized to teach the components of a book and to have Richard compose his own book. He is very excited about this project. We continue to practice determining if two words rhyme, the initial and final sound of a given word and the number of words in a given sentence. The difference between realistic fiction and fantasy was reviewed. Richard did well writing the numbers from 0-10 that were dictated to him. He enjoys closing his eyes, marking three places on the 100 chart and then stating the numbers. We will continue to practice identifying numbers greater than 10. Richard did well categorizing objects by different attributes. He is better able to read/recite the days of the week.
