We spent the first part of the session solving a couple of the more difficult SAT I math problems--one "counting" problem, involving a won-lost ratio, floowed by a winning streak and a geometry problem involving the angles of a quadrilateral inscribed in a rectangle. We then returned to our discussion of yesterday: parent functions of families of functions.

There was some difficulty at first creating thesis, we outlined general ideas and eventual found the proper phrasing for thesis and then were able to create an intro paragraph.
We worked more SAT problems during the first half of the session. Then we returned to parent functions, examining them by graphing on the calculator. We were able to relate the parent function of the quadratic to a problem on the SAT,

Ashley's attitude is great although occasionally she becomes frustrated when she is challenged by a problem. I've been coaching her, on the SAT, when she encounters difficulty, bypass it so as not to allow her frustration interfere with her ability to solve other problems.
We used the first 15 minutes for working SAT I Math problems. We then moved to "parent functions" for various families of functions, including linear, square (quadratic), cubic, quartic and quintic. We also discussed 'special cases' within the linear family--the constant and identity functions.

Ashley does very high-quality work on the SAT problems. We just need to ratchet up her speed a bit. Her attitude is fine.
