I subbed today during Bible study. Since we didn't have any lessons for World History on Monday, we started working on chapter 13. We completed reading chapter 13.1 and 13.2.
9.2 Voices for Creation – We read section 9.2 Voices for Creation. This covered several prominent scientists that have made important contributions to the study of Creation. We learned that many scientists past and present have believed in God’s authority over the universe & the Genesis account of Creation. These beliefs come from scientific evidence on chemistry, biology, and mutations.
Chapter 10 Mid-Chapter Review – We reviewed how to find the slope from two points and how to write the standard form of an equation from one point and the slope. Then we wrote the standard form of an equation of the line passing through a pair of points.
We began our session with days 1 and 2 of the week 24 vocabulary packet. We discussed the words for this study, which are: anthropologist, bizarre, inanimate, fetish, artifact, taboo, imprudent, prohibition, imperative, and taint. Morgan read two passages that utilized all of these words. After reading, she shared what she felt was the main idea of the passage. She then matched the definitions and words as well as completed fill-in-the-blank sentences examining the words in context. We worked to “check” her work by inserting the definition into the sentence to help deepen understanding and confirm the correct word was chosen. She added the part of speech for each word. We also discussed the idioms of “get down off one’s high horse” and “cream of the crop”. Next, we read through notes on adverbs. Morgan then completed practice activities to identify “how” adverbs. Finally, Morgan was provided with review sheets to complete for her upcoming poet quiz later in the week.
This morning we read chapter 9 of The Hiding Place. The family who had been hiding Jews had their home raided. It was a difficult time for the characters and we reviewed the material for clarity as we read and discussed how they must have been feeling. After reading, Morgan wrote a two-paragraph journal entry to respond to the following prompt: “Tell me about a time in your life where you had to conceal the truth from someone to protect them/their feelings (it can be something minor). What did you do and how did that make you feel? Do you stand by or regret your actions, and why?” Morgan didn’t feel like she really had much to write about for this assignment, but landed on how she felt about her experience with Lindamood Bell when she was younger. She struggled with not wanting to do it and being compliant and agreeable with those asking her to participate. She did add that she stood by her actions and was glad that she spent the time in the program. Finally, we began working on an enrichment project. We will be creating a travel brochure to capture the important and favorite places she visits when she is in Juno Beach each year. Today she began writing about her favorite restaurant (Jetty’s).
10-4 Graphing Linear Equations – We completed the assigned homework by graphing linear equations using two points, the x and y intercepts. Then we graphed linear equations using the slope and y-intercept from the slope-intercept form of an equation. Next we completed a review of problems requiring us to find the GCF, use the FOIL method, and solve word problems.
Science - 9.1 review questions -
Math - graphing linear equations -
We completed the review questions for chapter 9.1 and started the math questions on graphing linear equations using the slope and y-intercept.
Morgan picked up on math very quickly.
No History lesson posted by the teacher.
Science - chapter 9.1 review -
We worked on Science, chapter 9.1 and 9.2. We completed the notes for 9.1 and 9.2. We read chapter 9.2 - Voices of creation.
