Patrick and I read the next chapter of his book together. Then I chose 10 words from the book for Patrick to decode/read independently. He was mostly successful. He did very well breaking up words into manageable, decodable parts. Then Patrick completed his second repeated reading of Level E A Beach Day. He set a goal of 1 error. He was close to his goal only making 2 mistakes. After that Patrick was motivated to write "2 paragraphs" today. Following the writing process I gave Patrick a prompt and I guided him through generating a list of ideas to support the writing topic. Next, I helped Patrick develop a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences and a closing sentence. He stayed motivated and focused throughout the lesson :) Best writing of the year so far.

Lesson Comments
Patrick was super tired today. He said he was awake all night. I could see he was tired, but he had a great session. He heard Miss Kim Skyping with Stephen and asked me what a paragraph was. I explained and knowing that Stephen was writing multiple paragraphs motivated him to write his own:) His reading has improved tremendously again from Spring break, but he seems to have regressed with letter reversals. He is also struggling with spelling. He often wants to add the letter y to words that do not contain the sound. Also he is still struggling with reading and spelling pre-primer sight words (are, was, of, you). I feel like he needs to apply decoding skills in writing just as much as he needs to in his reading.

The first and the second part of the experiment came out perfect, and the crystal seeds were formed , so Patrick could set up the third part for experiment.
Patrick continued in his FF program. He is doing beautifully in his new program. Patrick beat another one of his high scores, as he continues to improve. He worked on an activity with some of his peers on a science activity which involved watching yeast rise. Patrick answered some higher order thinking questions using complete sentences in his LB program. He was a little tired during this activity and needed some reminding to use neat handwriting and the proper letter formation.
Today Patrick made a few data charts in math class. He learned to label his chart and find a pattern in each one. We came up with examples of different animals and counted the legs on each. Then we created a chart with the labels: number of animals and number of legs. Patrick was successful in creating a chart that represented the amounts of legs of different animal types. He understood the pattern and that it was increasing by equal increments. Patrick also read a chapter from his Galaxy Zack book. Great job, reading. Patrick also read his sight words without missing any. He then, wrote each one out on the dry erase board. Super work, today. Have a great weekend!

Patrick is doing great and has a great feel for making his chord shapes. His accuracy still needs some work as far as being able to hit the correct frets.
Patrick and I went over a set of sight words he will take home to practice. He did very well. Then we played the game I developed to work on rhyming and letter patterns. He still seemed to enjoy the game:) Next we started a new level F passage for repeated reading. Patrick set a goal of 1 error. In his first read he made only 2 mistakes!

Lesson Comments
Patrick is doing much better again!!! He worked very hard today. Patrick still demonstrates difficulty with rhyming. He is successful with a lot of coaching, but tends to get confused working independently. I am surprised he is still missing the automaticity and ease of rhyming.
Patrick and I started math today playing Make-A-Number. Then I modeled how to organize data into a table, analyze the data and then extend data computation. Patrick worked on data table organization, computation and application through guided practice.
