I introduced magic E which Patrick was familiar with. He easily read closed syllable words with magic e added (hope/hope, cub, cube). Next he read word cards from Step 3.5 and step 4.1, multi syllabic words with welded sounds, then silent E words. He was just a little restless from his previous session so I taught him some of the loop letters for cursive writing. This calmed him right down and he was able to focus. He read words lists with Magic E words and got 15 out of 15 correct. Then he read 10 sentences for fluency. After he completed the sentences, he read a three paragraph story and was able to retell in his own words. He did a great job on his reading and was enthusiastic about the cursive writing.
Assignment

Patrick was restless having just had a session on reading. I had brought some Wilson cursive to show him and he was quite interested. After practicing some letters, he was able to continue with his reading with much better focus. Cursive writing is especially helpful to dyslexic children as letter reversals are impossible, b and d can be mixed up, and it is far more fluid.
It was such a pleasure to be back in the classroom with Patrick. He was seemed very focused so we able to get right to work!!! In the weeks since school let out, Patrick has not regressed in independent reading levels. He is currently at independent reading level E. I will be giving reading instruction at level F. We also reviewed the first two sets of sight words. He did well with most of the words showing some difficulty with the words...word, my and were. We played tic-tac-toe using word and were as our x's and o's. After that we played a game using word parts -an, -ap, -at, -ack, and -ash. Patrick did well with this. He seemed to enjoy winning the game. After that we preread several independent books for Patrick to take home. Patrick chose 5 books:) The books are either on his level or slightly below to build fluency and confidence in reading. As we read today, I noticed that Patrick is dropping word endings. I will focus on Patrick reading the entire word in our instruction. I was so thrilled to see Patrick motivated to read.
Today Patrick and I finished the lesson started on Weds. Patrick did the quick drill in reverse, naming and pointing to all the sounds on the board including digraphs and welded sounds. Then we did written dictation on the white board. He recorded five sounds and five real words, scooping the syllables. He chose to do his sentence dictation using magnetic letters on the white board. After that he read a short passage about two people going on a trip and was able to answer several questions about the story. We finished the session with a listening comprehension story of his choosing. He chose a story on Ice Fishing, which I read aloud to him, and then he told me as much as he could remember about the story. He did a great job and seemed to enjoy this last part of the lesson the most.

Patrick seems tired coming right from his football camp. Next week he doesn't have the camp so it will be nice to compare his energy level.
Today Patrick worked on step 3.4/3.5. We reviewed all the welded sounds. He read three syllable words and scored 14 out of 15 correct on real words. He then read sentences and together we scooped the sentences for fluency. We wrapped up the session with Patrick spelling three syllable words. We reviewed how to mark up words and will do dictation next time. Patrick had a great attitude and was engaged the entire time.

Discus about polymer(properties) sodium polymer acrylate before the activity. The white powder is better known as the superabsorbent powder polymer hidden in lining of baby diapers. Talk about that the word polymer simply means long chain of molecules. Today Patrick did some editing on a few of his written pieces. He changed the fonts, and color of text. He typed and imported pictures to his story on the smallest and largest fish. Patrick printed out his work to take home. Patrick participated in last day of school activities. He painted a birdhouse and helped to make end-of-the year mugs for Ms. Judie and Ms. Johanna. Patrick helped to celebrate a friend's birthday. He also engaged in a water ballon toss outside with his peers. Patrick has been a pleasure to teach this year. I am so sad to see him leave, but I am happy to have seen the progress he made. Please stay in touch, so we can be kept abreast of his success in his future. Best wishes, Patrick!
Patrick continued in his FF program. He beat his high score in Leaping Lizards! Great work. This game has been supportive in teaching him grammar concepts such as periods, exclamation points, capitalization, and parts of speech. In LB, Patrick completed typing his paper on his fantasy piece about a magic tree house. He named it "Finding Leasha". He did a wonderful job, providing details to ensure his audience can create mental images. I am sad tomorrow is his last day. He has made incredible gains this year, and I have enjoyed having him, as a student here.
