LB/Keyboarding/FF/Research
Lesson Outline
Patrick continued in his FF program. He is doing very well in his current level. He is being challenged, and not reaching a frustration level. In LB, he has completed reading Dinosaurs after Dark and is creating his own story, similar to this. He is using the same idea, however, he chose to travel to a place called Dog Land. He is being creative, in that he is incorporating some real life issues into a fantasy genre. He even mentions bringing home Leasha, his real dog, back home. Patrick continued to type his story (very long) about his trip to play paintball. He is has it close to complete and should finish by Tuesday (fingers crossed). Great job, as always, Patrick!

LB/FF
Lesson Outline
Patrick continued his FF program. In his LB class, Patrick continued to verbalize his fictional story about a trip he took through his magic tree house. This was a follow-up activity to the story he read. He did a super job, being sure he used his structure words to create an interesting story. He expressed his thoughts and we modified some of his sentences in order to use words that were more captivating. He understands the meaning of synonyms. We are hoping to complete this story on Monday. Hope your weekend is great!

Repeated Reading, Fluency and Sight Words
Lesson Outline
Patrick and I reviewed sight words from set one and 2. With each read he continues to improve. Then he read Level G Sally's New Dog. He was fluent and met his goal of 0 mistakes in 5 reads or less!!! I know he is continuing to monitor because he is wonderful at self-correcting!!! He also placed a lot of emphasis on reading inflected endings and contractions today. Patrick is very cognizant about his reading! Lastly, I gave him a cold read benchmark test to determine his independent reading level. He passed Level F with flying colors. As of now I would say his instructional level is G. He still needs daily support with sight words and repeated reading to maintain this progress.

Landforms-Candy Land
Lesson Outline
I printed out the pictures of the landforms we made at the beach. Patrick went through the pictures and labeled each landform and body of water. Then we made a little book of Patrick's Sand Land for him to keep. This was a great way for Patrick to review before creating his candy land. Next, I wrote a list of all of the bodies of water and landform we discussed over the past few weeks. We reviewed each one explicitly and then I presented him with various candies to represent each landform or body of water. Patrick was free to create as long as he appropriately represented each landform and body of water. He also created a key for his candy land! He did a wonderful job with this!

Repeated Reading, Fluency and Sight Words
Lesson Outline
Patrick read sight words from both set 1 and set 2. He read set 1 with mastery and showed improvement with set 2. He only continues to struggle reading we and were. He still show tremendous difficulty with spelling several list words. I made short, simple sentences using words only from set 1 and 2 to practice spelling the words in context. Next we discussed our repeated reading focuses based on our previous reading...read contractions as contractions rather than 2 separate words and read word suffixes (-s, -ed). With this in mind Patrick read very well working hard to read words correctly and in there entirety. He made only one mistake (with the word walk). His goal is 0 mistakes so we will read again tomorrow:)

Lesson Comments
He is working hard, but still struggles tremendously with pre-kindergarten sight words. When he tries to spell them I can see that he is at times just grasping at straws. He often adds letters with no relation whatsoever to the word he is trying to spell. Due to repeated reading, he is starting to memorize the letters that make up certain words, but then confuses the order when he is trying to spell. Other words I think he has finally mastered and I am so proud of him. I really think repetition is key for him right now. Not necessarily in doing the same exact task or activity, but working with the same words in different ways (games, reading, writing, word ladders, etc.).
