Making and Interpreting Data Tables and Bar Graphs
Lesson Outline
Today Patrick and I reviewed how to tally information, read tally marks to determine numbers and make a graph using the information. Then Patrick interpreted different aspects of the graph to answer various questions. We also reviewed basic addition computation with flashcards outside. We had a lot of fun with this incorporating different moments to compliment the sum. For example with 10 + 7 we would jump 17 times.

Lesson Comments
Patrick is doing well with interpreting graphs, but has little interest in making them!!! I was very surprised to see how much Patrick struggled with the flashcards today. It was almost like the visual of the flashcards made it harder for him to compute. Seeing the numbers in the equation on the cards made it harder for him. We have practiced math facts on the basketball court daily for months and he has always done very well. I was very surprised. I am not sure if this could suggest a processing issue or further support the dyslexia diagnosis.

Lesson Comments
Patrick has really been impressing me lately with his ability to form his chords correctly without looking at his guitar. Not many beginners can do that. I usually takes lots of years of practice to develop the confidence and precision to do that. Also, Patrick showed much better rhythm today than in previous classes. It has been a great year, and I have enjoyed being a part of Patrick's musical journey and seeing him grow and improve.

Patrick finished reading the book, Dinosaurs After Dark. He provided a summary, after its conclusion. Afterward he began to write a paragraph pretending he found a magical treehouse, like Jack, a character in the story. He decided to write about going to a place called Dog Land. His goal is to refer to the structure words to help him be creative and descriptive when he "gets stuck". I am anxious to see the completed project. Great job!

Fluency with Repeated Reading, Sight Words and Writing
Lesson Outline
Patrick chose a new passage for repeated reading this week. He wanted to work on level G and set a goal of 0 mistakes in 5 reads. He is off to a great start. I did notice as he was reading today he tended to drop word endings. He also was reading contractions as the two separate words rather than as the contraction. We discussed both of these issues after he completed reading and set them as a focus to improve on over the next few reads. He is doing well with sight word set two. However, he is still struggling with reading we and were. We will continue this reading and spelling this list over the next few days. Lastly, Patrick worked on writing a 5 sentence paragraph. This was very challenging for him. I guided and gave him a tremendous amount of support with generating ideas and forming sentences. We spent the last few minutes working on math facts outside!

Patrick is doing a great job making his chords and is even switching between them pretty well. He struggles a bit with rhythm and tempo, so we are working on some ways to help him play the chords with a steady rhythm.

Keyboarding/ FF/LB
Lesson Outline
Patrick typed more of his written piece about going to play Paintball. He is working on keeping his eyes on his paper, while hitting the correct keys. At times, he loses his place so it will take some practice. In FF, he broke another one of his high scores. In LB, Patrick almost completed reading his book. He has a few pages left. Today we discussed authors craft. Specifically, we examined the way the author creatively wrote sentences in order to provide images for the reader. Patrick did a great job using the context to determine word meanings, such as graze, glide, coast, etc. It was a fruitful lesson today, and Patrick was very attentive and shared his thoughts.
