Today Patrick and I focused a lot the set 2 list of sight words. He has improved reading recognition, but is still struggling with reading several words on the list including "their, there, were, what, or, if, words". He wanted to practice spelling each word on this list and showed difficulty and frustration with many of the words. We stopped after he showed high levels of frustration. Hopefully, repeated reading of the words will lead to a better understanding of how to spell the words. Next we read level F Tree Houses where Patrick reached his goal of fluent reading within 3 reads with less 2 mistakes! Lastly, we choral read the next chapter of his book.

Patrick definitely has better days than others. Today Patrick had a hard time focusing and using his best effort. He also seemed genuinely confused by many of the familiar words he has been working on throughout the year.
Patrick continued in his FF program. He advanced a level in two different games. In LB, he read half of one chapter independently, and the other half I read aloud to him. We paused at times to capture Patrick's images. He is doing great, using complete sentences to describe the story's meaning and details. We have been keeping a running tally to keep track of which structure words he uses the most frequently so that we can assess how well he is picturing different details. He is able to earn points towards prizes. Today he earned a prize for reaching 60 points. In his research class, he searched for data on the worlds smallest fish. He jotted down notes, in order to write a complimentary paragraph to the largest fish. In keyboarding he played various typing games to increase his speed. We focused, also on learning the number keys. Great job!!
Patrick divided multi syllable words and then identified the syllable type. He did a fantastic job at reading a paragraph containing some of these words.
Patrick continued in his FF program. He played Bear Bags, Leaping LIzards, and Dog Bones. He is showing improvement in his grammar in Leaping Lizards. He still needs some reminding to be careful with his capitalization in between sentences. Patrick does wonderfully in Bear Bags, matching beginning and ending sounds. In Dog Bones, I am quite impressed with his comprehension, as some of the passages can be challenging and require inferencing. In his LB class, he read Chapter 6, and thoroughly provided a summary and discussion of the events of the story, and mood of the characters. He is consistently referring to the structure words, as if by habit. Great work, Patrick!
Today Patrick continued to practice his typing skills. He has been working on a long paper he has written about an experience he had at a Paintball place. In LB, Patrick read from his chapter book, and expressed his understanding verbally, referring to his structure words. Patrick continued in his FF program.
We reviewed Patricks homework. He had a few answers he either put in the wrong answer spot or forgot to do it. Patrick practiced three digit addition and three digit subtraction with regrouping. He did an awesome job on both but had to be reminded each time of the steps.
Today I subbed in for Ms. Debbie. Patrick had an opportunity to watch and listen to an informational piece on Dengue Fever. It was an animated movie made with a program called Story Jumper. Afterwards he was asked several questions based on his visualization and listening comprehension. He answers all of the questions correctly except one. Patrick did a great job! Patrick then used index cards with different word parts. He combined these parts to create new words. He practiced spelling them, as well. Super job!!
