Patrick played "Make a Ten" to the concept of "Go Fish" while using number cards. He was provided with an addend and had to determine the missing addend that makes 10.
Patrick used letter magnets to build short i words. When a word was built, I would tell him to turn it into another similar word containing at least one of the same spelling patterns. He was responsible for identifying what remained the same and what changed. (phonemic awareness) Patrick generated sentences that were examples of quotations in regards to his new puppy. As he narrated the sentences, I typed them for him. He used uncooked elbow macaroni to represent quotation marks, and glued them down around his sentences. He grasped this concept beautiful, and enjoyed reading his sentences with expression that was fitting to each family member. He even included his "mom-mom" and recalled exactly what she said on the day of the big surprise. "This is going to be a good day!" said mom-mom. We played sparkle spelling as a review before his test. A word was said, and Patrick had to start off telling the beginning sound before the spelling responsibility rotated back to me. When possible, he would identify a chunk in the word for extra points. He did a beautiful job of applying many digraphs and blends. (sh, th, ing, sw, sl, etc.) He was assessed on 11 short i spelling words (above first grade level) and mastered them with 100% accuracy. He made several self corrections during his test. He wrote a dictation sentence that contained his sight word "said" as well as quotation marks. For writing, we took photographs of Patrick in his lacrosse gear, acting out his favorite things to do while playing. He was very specific as to what he wanted the photos to show. He was responsible for browsing through the photos and selecting the ones that would best represent his details he included in his writing. Great job today, Patrick!
Patrick worked alongside of his peers and made a tie die shirt and socks. He looked at various patterns of tie die and used a specific technique of folding and attaching the rubber bands to achieve it.

Patrick made a fish aquarium craft to represent the short i sound. For reading, we played a sequencing game where Patrick looked at a series of 3 events, and determined the sequential order in order for the events to make sense. We increased to a series of 4 events and Patrick was successful with this as well. Patrick read Flip and determined the events that happened. He was introduced to 6 new sight words and practiced reading them in context. We played "Blast Off with Punctuation!" I read sentences to Patrick and he determined if they were telling sentences or questions. If he was able to give me an answer it was evidence for him that I was asking something. This helped, but at times he would guess. If it was a telling sentence, he decided if it had emotion in it (Stay away from the fire) or was a basic telling sentence basic (I went to the park)
Patrick read numerous word problem stories about joining together. He needed guidance with some of the words, but has strong "what makes sense" clues to help him word attack as he reads. He grasped the concept of what was being asked and what he needed to do in order to solve it. He drew pictures to represent what was happening. When it was time to add, he practiced starting with the larger number of the two and then counting on. This is a much more efficient way of adding, and he seems to enjoy it.
Today Patrick did very well in his keyboarding class. He has come close to the end of the next stage. He practiced the keys he has already learned and learned m and v today. He is working on maintaining the correct posture with his wrists up, off the key board. In Fast ForWord he did a great job in Elebot and Sky Gym, beating both of his high scores. He also played Hoop Nut, where he must pay close attention to one sound and then choose the sound that matches. He is never thrilled to play this brain game as the sounds are very similar and one must play extremely close attention. He has shown improvement identifying the correct sounds since he has started. Today Patrick participated in a fun group activity where he created his own tie dye clothing. It was a great opportunity to share with his friends, as he was engaged in a social environment. Since we were all together for this time, he did not perform his normal V/V actiivty for the day.
Patrick made a fishing rod craft (short i as in fish) to use to catch magnetic fish containing his short i spelling words. He broke them apart by reading the beginning digraph and blending it together with the short i word family. After catching them, he used each word in a sentence, and grouped them together according to their word family. Please practice these at home for homework. He practiced reading his 6 new sight words of this week. We played "In a Flash" where we time him identifying his sight words as quickly as possible. Each time, he wants to beat his best time. He is very motivated by it, and enjoys this fast paced game!
