We created a PowerPoint for the oral presentation that Gio will make on Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover book. We then created an annotated bibliography for the Capstone Project proposal, which intends to study Palm Beach County's current 911 system and make recommendations regarding a superior system that will triage calls more effectively than the current practice of responding in the ”order received," will accept video and photo transmission, geo-location, and text in various languages. The use of cellphones for 911 calls has called for a complete renovation in the ways such calls are handled.
Gio completed two separate project proposals since his teacher has not accepted his previous plans. The first is to determine the best 911 triage software. Currently, PBC 911 addresses calls in the order received, rather than according to urgency. Gio would present a plan to rectify that. The second is to increase the fire prevention program in PBC to ensure that all properties have working smoke and CO2 alarms through inspection and education programs.

Gio and I worked to complete the critical thinking portion of his assignment from last week. We then focused on his new study guide assignment. He was tasked with labeling the structure of a cross section of bone, including compact and spongy bone tissue. He then was instructed with labeling different parts of a long bone including the epiphysis, the diaphysis and marrow. Gio had several pages to complete where labeling different parts of the skeleton were required, starting with the appendages, the skull, and finally the front and rear complete human. Gio and I worked on his homework assignment, including most of the end of chapter questions for the chapter on the skeletal system. We reviewed the tissue of the bone (function and form) and the types of skeletal structures. Geo was tasked with comparing the ways new bones are formed in a fetus and a developed body. He listed the bones of the pelvic girdle and the pectoral girdle. He also listed the bones of the head, torso, and appendages in separate lists. Gio and I reviewed his class notes on membranes and skin in preparation for a quiz on Tuesday. We discussed the differences between mucous, serous and synovial membranes and the functions of each. We then created flash cards for the different types of skin cells and their functions. Gio and I discussed the epidermis and subcutaneous layers of skin, goose bumps, hair and fingernails. It really appears that Gio and his mom do not fully appreciate the dimensions of this project. This entails multifaceted service learning and career exploration. Gio has to identify a local problem, determine how he can assist in its resolution, and make efforts toward doing so. They had understood that he merely had to learn about becoming a firefighter. This requires much more effort...
We completed five homework assignments on factoring and simplifying polynomials and rational equations, interpreting graphs and interpreting data, turning word problems into math problems, and solving literal equations for given variables.
Gio wrote an essay on his assigned bible verse, Col 2:8-9, regarding the wisdom of the world in contrast to spiritual truth. Then, Gio wrote another essay answering the instructor's questions regarding Anderson's book What's Your Worldview. Gio described the basis of his way of understanding the world and his role in it.

Gio and I worked to complete his study guide questions on epithelial, connective, muscle, bone and nervous tissue. We used a teacher-approved, on-line ‘Jeopardy’ game to quiz Gio on the definitions or descriptions of the various tissues.
