We began with a brain break and introduced ourselves more formally. We reviewed Roe v Wade, Griswold v Connecticut and then discussed Planned Parenthood v Casey. We discussed precedent, due process, the facts of this case and the limited ruling and how and why it was ruled that way. We shared our ideas on the issues of the statute at issue especially spousal consent.
Hunter read aloud today in "Of Mice and Men." We stopped to analyze along the way. During the last part of our class, Hunter completed grammar practice exercises and did a decent job!
We continued our work with Radical Equations. Hunter solved equations that are raised to a fractional exponent by raising both sides of the equation to the reciprocal. He completed p. 394 (7-12)
I then introduced functions to him. A function is written as f(x), and is read "f of x". The function changes as the values of x change. After teaching him function notation, I taught him how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide functions. He completed exercises (1-19) on p. 400. He has done a good job on the past few lessons, and I have been pleased to see what he has retained. As he worked many of these problems, he would say the steps out loud, which showed me that he was fully engaged and focused on what he was doing. I love it when he does that!
Hunter and I will do an icebreaker, brainteaser. We will start discussing the purpose of graphic design. I will ask him why graphic design is important and how it could apply to his future. I want him to be specific and detailed.
I will ask Hunter who inspires him and why. I will give him examples of people that have inspired me, family and popular figures.
Hunter analyzed the U.S. Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade. We watched "Hip Hughes on History" and a Washington Post video of the announcement of the decision to understand the issues and the Court opinion. We also read the summary of the case in "The American Republic Since 1877; Supreme Court Case Studies." We discussed new words - dissent and concur - and discussed the holding of the case and the reasons behind them.
How to install a dead bolt lock? How to repair a screen door? How to install weather stripping? How to install track lighting? How to install a dimmer switch? How to fix a leaky faucet? How to install pavers? All these projects and more are covered in today's lesson. Great Session.
Hunter will complete his version of his graffiti name. Once complete with that project Hunter will dive back into Photoshop and begin working on four digital versions of his graffiti name. The goal is for Hunter to become more familiar with some of the tools and brushes available within Photoshop.

Rational Exponents and Solving Square Root Equations
Lesson Outline
Hunter finished questions on Rational Exponents, p.394 (41-49). He understands them very well!
I then moved to section 7-5, Solving Square Root Equations. I taught Hunter that, in order to solve a square root equation, you must isolate the radical. Then, you square both sides of the equtaion to remove the radical sign. Once the variable is out of the radical, you solve the equation like normal. Hunter did a great job working p. 394 (1-6)
