I bought in a Yoga Barbie for Sam. Sam cut out a yoga mat for her and we put the doll in several yoga poses. Sam decided not to do a yoga/dance performance today, but did do some interpretive yoga/dance to Christmas music. I also had her pick out 5 yoga poses to demonstrate. New pose: dancer pose
Sam chose to continue a book series (Narnia) during our class, we borrowed Edmund and the White Witch from Miss Linda, her Wilson teacher. They had read the first story, and ours was the second. Sam started class by recapping the first story for me. Then, we predicted in writing before we started reading, then team-read through Edmund and the White Witch. At the end of class, when Sam was asked to complete the Active Reading Strategies (response to reading that always accompany a reading exercise) she was not interested in finishing, so has taken it home for homework. She mentioned feeling a lack of confidence because of dyslexia, but I have seen her produce great work and reminded her she is VERY bright and applying herself (including completing the work I assign) will take her to wherever she wants to be in life. Also for homework she will list her talents, goals and dreams.
Sam had a Newsies-centered class today. We team-read multiple articles and show reviews written about Newsies. She agreed and disagreed and used the information in the articles to generate her own response in writing, and wrote her own review.
Sam enjoyed prepping for and participating in a school-wide Christmas Around the World event today during our class. She delivered her St. Lucia / Sweden information beautifully!
The session began with a basic facts division warm-up game. Samantha reviewed creating multiplication arrays. She worked on solving two digit by one digit multiplication problems. Inequalities were discussed and several multiplication problems involving this concept were solved by Samantha. The final part of the lesson involved reading and solving word problems.
Today we sang through Santa Fe, Samantha's song that she's chosen to sing for Wednesday's winter recital. She has her song memorized and she is confident and comfortable with her performance.

Something I feel I need to communicate. Samantha has been saying that she's been wanting to sing a duet with me from Newsies. Today, we were singing this duet, she was singing the boy part and I was singing the girl part. This song is new to me and apparently, at the end of this song in the musical, the two characters kiss. Samantha threw her arms around me and tried to kiss me on the lips. I quickly moved away and playfully let her know that was not going to happen! She then started rubbing herself and said that we should have sex. I said that was inappropriate. She then asked me if my fiancee and I have had sex. I told her that was inappropriate. I am fine but I thought it should be communicated. I am working with her to understand boundaries like 1) don't come into my personal space 2) don't touch my personal belongings 3) don't touch my hair etc.

Samantha completed a test on invertebrates. After her test, she and I began a project to explore the members of the phyla: Chordata. She wrote out the names of the different classes that populate the phyla. She also listed a few members of each class. We reviewed the classification system, and the different levels. I showed her the meme to remember how the system works: Keep Ponds Clean Or Frogs Get Sick helps us remember the Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species. Homework: Learn the correct spelling of the five classes of the phyla Chordate: Amphibian, Reptile, Fish, Aves, Mammal.
