Chocolate, Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Lesson Outline
Today Analise and I made Chocolate, Chocolate Chip ice cream in the play and freeze ball. The ball has two openings one on the top and the other on the bottom. On one side, we filled the ball with ice all the way to the top and added ½ cup of rock salt and closed the lid tightly. Then on the other side, we filled the ball with 2 cups of cream, 1 & ½ teaspoons of vanilla, 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons of sugar and ½ cup of chocolate chips. We then started playing with the ball. We talked about why we added salt to the ice. We learned that it causes a temperature drop that slows the melting rate and increases the freezing rate. After 15 minutes of playing with the ball we got to try Analise's delicious ice cream.

Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies
Lesson Outline

Today Charlie made Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies. They are also known as Russian Teacakes. They are full of rich cocoa powder and chocolate chips. We started class by lining our cookie sheet with parchment paper. Next he mixed butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, cocoa, and vanilla in the KitchenAid mixer until it was fluffy. Charlie then added flour and salt and mixed it until the dough formed. Then he poured in the chocolate chips. We scooped 1 tablespoon balls of dough and placed them onto our prepared cookie sheet. Charlie set the timer for 8 minutes. Once the cookies cooled enough to handle them Charlie filled a small bowl with 1 cup powdered sugar and rolled each cookie in the sugar until it was well coated. The Double Chocolate Snowball Cookies turned out great!
