Analytical skills and synthesis
Lesson Outline
Ben showed me his edited homework and we reviewed his edits. . His responses demonstrated good insight and analysis of the characters. Ben. answered in complete sentences for two our of the three questions but immediately edited his response when this was pointed out. We then read Book I/Chapter 6, pages 63 -68 which addressed Winston's writing writing about an intimate encounter he had in his diary, which was considered a minor crime in 1984. We discussed how the dingy, nasty memory makes Winston desperate to have an enjoyable intimate experience, but it is not possible considering the Party's views about women, intimacy, and marriage since the sole duty of unions is to reproduce new members. Ben demonstrated a very good ability to synthesize the author's intent.
