We studied the use of paradox throughout Act I ,first noting the recurrence of the "fair is foul" image and then studying the paradoxes within the three prophesies the witches share with Banquo. I noted how the use of paradox mirrors the appearance vs reality motif. I further discussed how historically there are many alternative editions of all of Shakespeare's plays, each with some slight change of diction or syntax. We examined one phrase where the word "or" instead of the word "of " is used in our edition and discussed how that single word alters the meaning of the sentence. Last ,we continued to analyze the role of free will and fate in Macbeth's life,noting how the supernatural forces connote evil external forces working along with Macbeth's character flaw. Jaydn read, analyzed, and discussed chapters 36 and 37 of A Thousand Splendid Suns. We discussed the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan and the rules they set up for the people and especially the women. Jaydn discussed the various effects these rules would have on the health, education, and existence of the women and their children. We discussed how she could use the facts learned from this novel in a future persuasive literary paper.

Cabo discussed the significance of the recurring motif of tea and its effect on the character development of Miriam and Laila.
