Graphing Populations -
Rory was given data for a population of fruit flies growing in a closed environment. He was asked to determine the rate of growth and graph the population over time. He was then challenged to do the same for a population of rabbits living in a controlled environment with no predators and unlimited food supply. After he had completed these activities, we examined the two graphs and Rory was able to identify and explain the existence of a limiting factor for the flies, and exponential growth with no carrying capacity for the rabbits.
Rory was instructed to open Photoshop, create a 5" by 5" template, import a Celtic image that I had found, and use the pen tool to recreate the image. I had him create 1/3 of the image and asked him to show me what he would do to create the other 2/3, since they were all identical. He was not sure so I walked him through the process of copying the image that he created and placing the parts in the correct places. Rory finalized the logo by placing an "R" in the center and adding a gradient. Rory saved his work as a Photoshop and a PNG file. I had Rory go to the student website and place the logo on the page of this year's logos.
In Spanish, Rory read a poem about gratitude. Rory shared what he was grateful for within his family and friends. We researched some music about giving thanks.
Rory watched a comedy series in Spanish about a Latin family. We outlined words that he had practiced in the family unit. Rory drafted a letter to a family member in another country introducing himself to the relative.
Rory watched a video about family relationships in Spanish and how people are connected. He practiced 2 dialogues between family members who had conflicts and had to solve the issue.
Rory and I finished reading Part 5 of the book. We had a really great discussion. He also took a quiz over that section and did quite well. We continued reading the text.
Rory was shown the Web content sheet that he would be using for his documentary series. I walked Rory through each part, the title of the documentary, the person of interest, the highs and lows of the peron's career, a brief summary of what you saw and takeaways from the documentary. Rory was additionally given the list of all documentaries from which he could choose. We completed the documentary on Todd Mcfarlane, and we discussed some of the highs and lows and points throughout the video to help him with his work screen.

Graphing Populations -
Continuing with the activity from our last class, Rory was challenged to graph his data; ultimately showing that the population of bubbles with care (k population) lived longer than bubbles that were not given assistance (r population). Rory then completed an activity, plotting the gray bat population from a single colony in southern Indiana, between 1982 and 2000. After he had completed the graph, we discussed the data and examined his graph. Using the graph, Rory conducted his own analysis to determine the percent increase in population over the study. I challenged Rory to estimate the number of bats in the colony from a year where data was not collected, based on his graph. I asked several additional questions about the data including: how often the population was faced with a decline, and when the colony was placed under federal protection.
