The lesson began with a review and discussion of current news stories.
We then reviewed the Bill of Rights. Next, we reviewed and discussed at length the remaining seventeen amendments. We did not complete all of them but will continue tomorrow. GT demonstrated considerable knowledge of the historical context of the amendments.

Lesson Comments
GT continues to demonstrate considerable background knowledge.
GT got a 90% on his vocab quiz today. We then looked at a series of photographs of various mutualistic relationships between organisms, and GT did a great job on identifying the ways in which both organisms benefited in many of the examples. He learned about the symbiotic relationship between some shallow-water corals and algae, as well as about the relationship between fungus and algae that forms lichen. He really liked learning about the photosynthesizing sea-slug.

First we went over the "big six elements of life" and their relative masses. GT was able to guess 4 of them. We discussed the role of various elements in living things. GT then labeled the parts of a compound light microscope. We discussed the difference between light microscopes and electron microscopes, and looked at images from both on the computer. GT then examined several types of cells under the microscope, including blood cells, diatoms, and nerve cells.
He was very careful with the microscope and did a good job with it.
In this session, GT was going to start inverse functions but rational functions are used to study inverses and GT felt he has never had rational functions. So we are going to make a slight detour and cover rational functions first.
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME BY Mark Haddon/COMMON LIT
Lesson Outline
We continued with our study of the novel. GT shared his double journal entry that he had written for homework. We read and had an excellent discussion on the plot and the characters. We then began reading the short story "A Woman's Secret" by Guy de Maupassant (from the website CommonLit).
We are going to compare the similarities of the short story to the novel. We are going to compare the author's use of letters to convey important events/meanings in both the short story and novel.
In this activity, we continued working with inverse functions that are not one-to-one. GT had to make functions one-to-one so an inverse could be found. We ended the session proving the functions were inverses.

Lesson Outline
GT and I continued our study of the novel. We first discussed the two double journal entries that GT had written for homework. He did a great job--super insight! We read and discussed the next section. We defined unknown vocabulary using context clues. We also talked about the author's use of point of view. We discussed plot development. GT chose a quote from the section that we had just read and wrote his response composing a double journal entry with proper MLA citation.
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME BY Mark Haddon/SADLIER VOCABULARY
Lesson Outline
GT and I continued our study of the novel. We read and discussed different sections of the book. We used the study guide questions as a springboard for our discussion. We also talked about annotating the text and writing the double journal entries. We selected two quotes from the book. We reviewed how to use correct in-text citations. GT will write his responses for homework tonight.
