Complete chapter 2 of Presque Mort and discuss the history of Bretagne
Lesson Outline
This lesson was a mixed reading/culture lesson on the conclusion of chapter 2 of “Presque Mort”. Abby read and translated in French. The character in this story is going to St. Malo in Bretagne. The story discusses the menhirs and dolmens built by the Celtes. There are references to Merlin the magician; the druides; King Arthur; his Excalibur sword; his castle Camelot; Queen Guenievre; Sir Lancelot; the Knights of the Round Table and Tristan and Yseult. All part of 5th and 6th century France with it’s invasions from the Saxons. Since all of this is an integral part of the history of Bretagne, where our story takes place, we googled it in an attempt to separate fact from fiction, and to learn some history. Abby will be doing a report on these characters in the next week.

Journal entries; Reading "Presque Mort", translating and writing a summary
Lesson Outline
We began by going over Abby’s homework. She had written a 5 sentence summary of Chapter 1 of her short story “Presque Mort”. With just a couple minor grammar errors, Abby did a great job. We then went outside and
Abby made entries into her journal. The journal is written exclusively in French. She discussed, the date, the weather, her afterschool activies and her plans for the weekend. Her grammar was good and she needed help with only a few vocabulary words. Again - a very good job. We returned to her room and Abby read chapter 2 of “Presque Mort”, in French. I asked questions, in French and she answered. She added a couple vocabulary words to her word bank and then wrote a summary of the chapter. She did a great job.
