Lesson Comments
Michael is sleepy (his sister is in town with a group of girlfriends!). He doesn't ace the test like I had hoped he would. But he does well enough to go on to the next level(which would be A.1.2). Unfortunately, this is probably our last lesson here at JBP. Michael has been an extremely nice student. I wish him all the best. I am sure he'll do well for himself.

We review dependent clauses and form sentences starting with "warum" (why), "weil" (because), and "wenn" (when). We listen to a dialogue in German in which a young man is asking his mother where his things are and she tells him where to look for them.

Lesson Comments
Michael feels a little drained from previous lessons. He comments on how intensive these one-on-one sessions are. But he is not sleepy, we are able to do the exercises that I picked out, and we are also able to chat a little in German. I am convinced that Michael would be able to express the basics and "survive" in a German speaking country.

Lesson Comments
Practicing questions went well, but we still need to do more of that. Distinguishing between long and short vowels went extremely well. I was surprised since, for Spanish speakers, this tends to be very hard.

The Dative Case
Lesson Outline
We practice the imperative by telling an imaginary German shepherd to sit, come, etc. We practice using the dative case by looking at the picture of a kitchen and saying where things are located in relation to other things. We talk about how frequently we go grocery shopping, cook, wash dishes, etc.
We pretend Michael won the lottery and is buying gifts for his friends and family, he says what he buys for whom, practicing the dative case. We look at a story in pictures in which Josef buys gifts for his family and Michael says what he buys for whom.
Assignment
Write down what Josef buys for his family.
