Ben and I reviewed common spelling rules and patterns this morning. We went over one-syllable words with double consonants at the end. We also discussed that when a word ends with a /k/ use 'K" or 'ck' instead of 'c,' and practiced using some examples. Ben correctly noted that around half of the English words have irregular spellings. He was in a good mood on this fun Friday before Thanksgiving break.

I subbed for Kaylee this morning, Friday, 11-18-22, from 8:15 - 9:00. It was for Intensive Reading, for which there is no drop-down entry, so I put it under Intensive Language Arts.
Ben completed two rounds of the 'Thanksgiving: Eat Your Words!' practice list. He worked independently, demonstrating good integration and synthesis of the material. Ben stated that he felt he did poorly on the assignment because there were more spelling questions on it. He prefers the multiple choice format to spelling free-style; however, he answered all the questions, as directed in the assignment. Ben then read the poem, 'When Thanksgiving is All That We Have,' by Alberto Rios in the document: 'Ben's Thanksgiving Week Poem Reflection.' Ben read the poem aloud to practice fluency, and then answered four questions pertaining to its content.

I subbed for Kaylee this morning, Thursday, November 17, 3022, from 8:15 - 9:00, in Intensive Reading, which I put under the category Intensive LA.
Cameron worked online and independently. He logged in to Vocabulary.com and completed two rounds of 'Thanksgiving: Eat Your Words!' practice list. We then collaboratively read, 'When Giving Is All That We Have," by Alberto Rios. Cameron demonstrated good comprehension and synthesis of the material when queried. He is to finish the questions at home and be ready to review his responses in class tomorrow.

I subbed for Kaylee this morning, November 17, 2022, from 7:30 - 8:15 (Intensive Reading).
It was wonderful to see Ayden today and hear about his summer. I introduced him to the writing curriculum we will be using. The Writing Revolution is a systemative approach to improving writing for all subjects. He read an article about fast food advertising and its impact on children. Ayden identified and edited a list of sentences and sentence fragments. He wrote four sentences on the topic (statement, question, exclamation, and command). Using the sentence stems because, but, and so, Adyen completed a series of sentences. Next session, we will move on to the paragraph level.

I was pleased with Ayden's unexpected decision to write so legibly (and small!) This curriculum will benefit Ayden; I am excited to teach it to him.
First, Ayden reviewed his ACT vocabulary cards and added two new words. Next, we reviewed a section of the English grammar portion of the test. Finally, we reviewed a section of the Reading section of the test.
I prepared an ACT review lesson, but Ayden was under the impression that he was done with school. So I called Nicole, and she said that Ayden technically has three more hours to complete but that the decision would be up to Miss Judie. So I told Ayden not to worry, good luck on the ACT, and have a great summer!
