Richard was seen in his room for a 45-minute treatment session. His session focuses on improving his postural control, integration of retained reflexes, visual motor skills and integration, fine motor skills, dexterity, manipulation, ocular motor development and graphomotor development/keyboarding as an alternative means to written communication. Finished standardized testing today using the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2nd Edition. It is intended for use by practitioners and researchers as a discriminative and evaluative measure to characterize motor performance, specifically in the areas of fine manual control, manual coordination, body coordination, and strength and agility. Richard participated well and was able to complete all tasks presented. During the bilateral coordination subtest Richard demonstrated slight difficulty with separating his UE movements from his LE movements and with contralateral movements. Test scores to follow.
Richard focused on his pencil grip, his posture, his placement of letters, and the position of his words, as he wrote an informative and explanatory story.

Continued working today on writing in cursive for Mother's Day coupon book. Richard was able to write his name in script; however, relies on OT to talk him through (with auditory clues from Script Island) writing the letters. We continued working on refinement of cursive and Richard was taught high connectors today.

Began today's session with cursive handwriting practice. Since Richard has learned every letter of the cursive alphabet he was asked to write words by connecting letters today to make his mom a Mother's Day coupon book. When provided with visual and verbal cues Richard was able to write in cursive slowly and methodically. This style of writing will take practice before it becomes functional but his end result was beautiful and he was proud of his writing. He continues to require specific cues to loop his letter like cursive "l and e" backwards but overall seems to grasp the movements involved in writing in script. Great session.
