Political Power: Definition, Types & Sources
Lesson Outline
Political power is when a group of people or an individual has control and influence over a nation's beliefs, actions, and behavior. This power can be legitimate power granted by the people of a nation or it can be illegitimate, where power is seized through forceful action. In order to have power, a government must have authority. Authority means that an individual or group has the right to use power by making decisions, giving orders, and demanding obedience. Political power can be held in numerous ways: Majoritarianism occurs when the majority of people in any government or organization have the last word in the decision-making process. We discussed pluralism and elitism. We also discussed that in the absence of government, there is anarchy.

Government: Definition, Purpose & Types
Lesson Outline
In our first class, Bella learned that this class will combine some of what she learned last year - mainly how the Framers of the U.S. government created our federal and local governments. We will look at the origins of U.S. govt., its functions and its contemporary function. There are many kinds of government. Some are defined by the amount of power that the leader has. A monarchy is ruled by a single leader, usually a king or emperor. A constitutional monarchy limits the power of the monarch with a constitution that protects rights of the people. A republic government is entirely composed of officials who are elected to represent the people. Governments can also be defined by the way that leaders develop power. An example would be the meritocracy, where government officials must be qualified above a certain level in order to hold offices. There are many forms of government, but all of them define the lives of the people they govern.

Latin Music
Lesson Outline
Today we did an activity about Latin music. We saw music videos of Spanish-speaking artists like Shakira, Bomba Estereo, and Fonseca. etc, and she completed a series of questions (Did you like the song and why? Is it good or not?), and also described each artist. With this activity, we seek to reinforce qualifying adjectives in Spanish and how to express personal preferences. At the end of this activity, she chose her favorite artist and video and wrote about it, then read it to two people and practiced pronunciation.
