A professional golfer who Cameron greatly admires is also the son -in-law of the greatest hockey player in history. Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, who was known as "The Great One" during a professional hockey career that spanned from 1978 - 1999. Gretzky was a child and teenage prodigy player born and raised in Edmonton, Canada who eventually moved to the U.S. to play hockey. Gretzky is the leading goal scorer, assist producer and point scorer in NHL history. He is the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season, a feat he accomplished four times. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he held 61 NHL records: 40 regular season records, 15 playoff records, and 6 All-Star records. After his retirement in 1999, Gretzky was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The NHL retired his jersey number 99 league-wide, making him the only hockey player and one of only three players in professional sports history (including Jackie Robinson) to receive such an honor. He is an amazing figure in the world of sports and was respected by fans, coaches fellow players as well as world leaders, many of whom he met himself.
Cameron worked on completing mathematics practice problems for his Algebra I course on page 411 of his textbook for Chapter 10-1: The Square Root Function.

Since Cam made it through the local qualifying for the US Open his documentary assignment will be: "The History of Amateurs at the US Open Golf Tournament". Cam immediately embraced the concept, we walked through the basic research sources plus my general knowledge of Bobby Jones & others through the years. Add his curiosity and Cameron immediately knocked out 3 paragraphs to start the documentary. I also suggested choosing an Angle or theme such as "Stars are Born" since this year's US Open Golf Championship is in LA near Hollywood.

Cameron was remote via Teams today and was very impressive. Naturally, I picked a topic for the documentary which he gravitated to and I hoped he could better appreciate his journey with the working knowledge of past Amateur greats. Cam quickly search through wiki & google as guided and began writing without much prompting. We'll continue and this is likely the final assignment of the year. Documentary work is very time consuming. My plan is to have him complete to written portion by the end of semester. I always tell him to write with video in mind.
Cameron's passion for golf has truly enhanced our study of history. And when it comes to knowing dates, just ask Cameron about notable events and golfers and his memory is truly impressive. Today Cameron shared that perhaps no golfer better understood the game than Ben Hogan (1912 – 1997). He was an American professional golfer who is considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game. He is remembered for his profound influence on golf swing theory and his ball-striking ability. 1953 was Hogan's watershed season, a year in which he won 5 of the 6 tournaments he entered, including 3 major championships (a feat known as the Triple Crown of Golf). What we have noted about golfers in the early 20th century is that they used to play in a dress shirt and tie. And many of these amazing athletes not only smoked at events, they smoked while they were competing! Thank goodness that habit stopped! Hogan's 1953 was the first time a golfer won 3 major professional championships - until Tiger Woods in 2000.

Remote lesson today. Cameron has a tournament this weekend in Wellington. It's been great to discover that incorporating golf into history enhances Cameron's attention and understanding of historical times/events that have coincided with important people and tournaments in golf since the late 19th century.
We created two different business plans: one for a service and one for a product. Cameron also used Canva to create the initial branding concept and tag line.
